Big News for my Practice - https://mailchi.mp/8e0ef597a326/big-news-for-my-practice

Request for help on behalf of a patient: I am reaching out for a nutritionist and/or health coach, maybe even a retired nurse, who can help in a supporting role for a woman who is severely anorexic and who needs weekly support for a re-feeding process. She is highly educated and knowledgeable, but needs someone to stand with her; she is on disability income which means she can't pay much, if anything, for help. Please get in touch with me by private message, or email ([email protected]) and I can provide more detail. Thank you so much, I hope someone out there can extend themselves to help:-)

More insight into the complex neurological system and its many facets...... as we understand the many ways our brains can function, we can understand each other better and make room for differences. What if we just stopped calling these 'disorders'?? What if the way ADHD is abnormalized is itself part of the difficulty of navigating the world with an ADHD brain?

I've just spent the last 2 hours reading posts of horrible, serious, awful things in the world - all important, and sometimes I will repost - but right now I want to pass on something light and kinda interesting..... see if you agree.

Oh this is lovely.

What do you think Canada? Good interview by Carol Off, smart questions. It was repeated several times that this does not solve the problem, and that for many families in the UK, the only affordable food is junk food. True here as well. But I believe it's a start.

Hey everyone, It would seem that the continuing winter temperatures are not conducive to Spring Cleansing! Fair enough....I'm not feeling ready either:-) . I will be running this course in a few weeks, exact dates to be determined. In the meantime, I'll attempt to 'wet your whistles' with a few tidbits (no.....not timbits) of information to get you in the mood to get healthier. Any questions? Please feel free to message me here on FB, or email me at [email protected]. Looking forward to it!

Oh my god, I love this! More of this please.....

This is a bit of a technical read, but for those of you who want to understand what your body is doing under stress, this is a good start.

I just wanted to take a moment to say a huge thank you to everyone who wrote such nice things about my practice, and attempted to post them under reviews/recommendations. I will explain why they're not getting posted: my profession does not allow for recommendations or testimonials on any site that is under our control, which means FaceBook, our own websites, Instagram, etc. However...... public sites like Google or Yelp are fair game, so ..... do with that what you will:-)!! I simply wanted to say thank you for all of the support I've already received in my first couple of weeks in FaceBook land.

The title of this podcast is a wee bit misleading in that it places most of the emphasis on the direst of consequences of an idea called 'emotional labour'. I'm posting this because of the hundreds of women I've spoken to and treated over the years who all experience extreme emotional burnout and mental health issues as a result of being everything to everybody, and shouldering all of the burden of keeping it all together. I don't mean to take away the message of how it ties in to rape culture, but the bulk of the interview is really about the high pressure of day-to-day life for most women taking care of everyone around them. Hope you will give it a listen.

Easily one of my favourite podcasts of 2018. It's just over 20 minutes, which I know feels very long these days, but I hope you'll give it a listen. This kid manages to get some explanations from experts of the gut-brain connection that a medical interviewer probably wouldn't get. Love it!

From my office mate, Sarah Bourdon of Calm Kids Counselling..... thanks Sarah!

Dr. Jane Reside, ND 27.03.2020

Yup, it's nice to see this idea getting more attention. Not just for kids, either...... as my patients will attest, I'm a bit of a broken record about this, but I believe we could ALL use a little more calm, a little less crazy. Have a read.....

SO interesting!

For many of you confused about how ND's recommend food intro to babies, waiting until 12 months before starting on the allergenic stuff, this is a good read. The only thing I would add - a bit of critical information - is that this really doesn't work great when babies are born by C-section, and/or when mom is actively taking antibiotics during labour - that's because a robust microbiome is essential for a good gut immune response to potential food antigens. Other than that piece, I do think this article makes a good argument.

Lovely to see research on this. It's a small study, but well-designed, and it's a start!

Well it's my inaugural Face Book page launch, and I think this is a pretty good way to kick things off. After 12 years, a new Canada Food Guide has just been rolled out. Not only was this NOT compiled with food industry lobbyists at the table, a historical first, but it included 3 Naturopathic Doctors in the consultation process, as part of an impressive inclusionary team of health experts. I'm so excited to see a few key things: down-graded emphasis on dairy and meat; renewed emphasis on water; a specific inclusion of fruit juice in the 'sugary-beverages-to-avoid category; AND a brand new inclusion of environmental impacts of our food choices and how we can bring back community and basic cooking to our enjoyment of food. Check it out here:
