Timing is everything... Do you ever feel like you are waiting for things to be just right before you take action and then come to realize maybe you waited a little too long? Or perhaps ask yourself the question Why did I not do this sooner? ... This is something that I can say with confidence, most of us have done or continue to do, even when we know better. It is often scary to take a leap, change directions or do something outside of your comfort zone. These actions or steps do not need to be reckless or massive shifts, it could be as simple as shifting your start of day rituals towards the life or mantra you desire, or even just shifting ONE of your rituals and keep going from there. It is Tuesday which is the PERFECT day to do something you have been putting off. Don’t wait for the weekend or a Monday, Tuesday is as good a day as any so just go for it! What are you going to go for? Remember done is better then perfect. You’ve got this! #chooseyourownadventure #iamworthit #yousteeryourship #chooseyourpath #timeforashift #youvegotthis See more

What a morning having our zoom @all4chiro #AFCAGM2020. It was nice to see amd connect with some of our membership and share great news, direction and vision for the rest of 2020 going into 2021. Have to say it was kind of fun to be business on top and sporting my @lululemon yoga pants and bare feet on the bottom Thanks to my fellow board members for all your hard work and so glad to stand alongside you in this journey. If you are a #chiropractor in Ontario or other pr...ovinces and looking to be supported and represented by a board who’s purpose is to strengthen, restore, and reinforce the personal/professional impact of neurologically-based Chiropractors then look into joining the Alliance For Chiropractic. BE On Purpose Take ACTION LEAD By Example And remember, Each one of us can make a difference. Together we make change. ~Barbara Mikulski #lovewhatido #chiropractic #neurologicallybasedchiropractic #leadbyexample

My heart is melting... We gift these @babyboomcreations #onesies to our youngest practice members at their report of findings. The parents love it, the baby does too (can’t you tell? They often wear it in ) and it spreads the message of chiropractic from parent to parent and parent to community which is so important! We also gift our #chiropractic T-shirt’s to our toddlers and young children practice members too! We love serving all our practice members from moments old ...to our centenarians and everything in between. The ripple effect in all directions, crossing over generations is incredible. Celebrate these practice members in fun, unique ways and spread the word! There are so many kids and adults who are struggling with #sensoryprocessingdisorder That could mean they are hypersensitive where they will avoid sensory stimulation or hyposensitive where they will seek out stimulation and pushing boundaries or both. During times of stress we may even see these challenges heighten, especially during these strange times. Did you know exploring nature is one of the best ways to work on #sensorychallenges and focus on #brainbalance ? Ther...e are 5 main senses we want to keep balanced to help us cope and excel in every day life. Sight: watching the change in patterns as the sun dances through the leaves; navigating a path over branches, leaves and rocks; looking at different leaves, plants and insects; see what shapes or objects you see in the clouds Smell: smelling the leaves on the ground versus leaves on trees; how does the air smell after it rains; how do different flowers smell; what do you smell in the air Vestibular: run, bike or hike on a trail; go up and down hills; walk or balance on a fallen log; jump on and off rocks; throw sticks and rocks into the water Touch: touch moss, bark, pine needles, pine cones; feel the warmth of a rock from the sun then the cold underneath from the ground; feel the textures of flowers and leaves; touch and splash in water and puddles; feel the grass or moss on your bare feet Sound/Hearing: listen to the wind as it rustles the leaves; the birds chirping and singing; listen to the sound different rocks and shapes make when they land in the water Those ideas or descriptions of things in nature may create joy or seem very peaceful to you as you read them but for some it would be just too much. Introducing nature slowly by bringing it into their environment is a great first step. Let them explore a leaf or rock first then go out and look for one. The most important thing is to be patient and meet them where they are at daily. Nothing can beat the great outdoors and nature so it is time to explore! #retainedprimitivereflexes #sensoryplay #superkids #allaboutthebrain #nature #chiropractic #kidchiro #babyboomcreations #explore #vitaminnature

It is all about perspective. Printed headlines have been a huge challenge during these times. They are more about creating fear and selling papers then facts and truth and I am not okay with it. ... Choosing to not be glued to the news does not mean you do not care about the state of the world. Being informed is important but it can be done with boundaries and intent to help avoid being swallowed up by half truths and sensationalized stories. Let’s remember to write your own headlines starting TODAY! The world is a better place when we approach each day with kindness, compassion and focus on simple truths. Refocus. Smile. We are going to be okay. #perspective #chooseyourownadventure #kindness #findyourway #love #laugh #itsachoice #riseaboveit #livewithoutlimits #simplepleasures #iamworthit #writeyourownheadlines

When you plug your nose and force yourself to breathe through your mouth what happens to your posture? *Is it easier to breathe with your head forward or over your shoulder (where our head should be )? *Pay attention to your lower jaw (mandible) position when your head position changes...does it slide forward or back?... *What happens to your tongue position if you switch between mouth breathing and nose breathing? Posture, tongue position, breathing, jaw position are all connected!!! But don’t worry, it is never too late to detect or work to correct these changes! This is one of the topics I will be discussing in my upcoming presentation for the @goldlearning #tonguetiesymposium on September 15, 2020! If your are in the healthcare field working with these populations check it out! If this is something you are personally struggling with and want to know more send me a DM Registration is open for the Tongue-Tie Symposium so go and check out all the incredible speakers! Laughter is the best medicine... There is a mountain of evidence developing showing the positive impact laughter and good thoughts can have on all of us. ... Short term: -enhances intake of oxygen-rich air, stimulates your heart, lungs and muscles -increases endorphins released by your brain -activate and relieve your stress response -decrease your heart rate and blood pressure within 20 mins post laugh -soothe tension Long term: -Improve your immune system: positive thoughts can actually release more neuropeptides that help fight stress and other potentially more serious illnesses -Relieve Pain -Increase Personal satisfaction -helps you connect with other people -Improves your mood During these strange times laughter and finding joy and pleasure in simple tasks daily is so important. You are allowed to feel sad, frustrated, anxious in life and it is so important to honour those emotions. It is also so important to seek moments of levity and silliness and remember it is ok to laugh and embrace happiness especially in the difficult moments in life. Laughter is a full body experience that has an effect on us from head (brain) to our toes. That is why it is important to giggle, smile, and laugh DAILY! Today I choose joy! #laughteristhebestmedicine #friendship #socialcreatures #immunesystemsupport #goodforthesoul #allaboutthebrain #fullbodyexperience #smile #laughter #doublebubble #chooseyourownadventure

How our tongue moves is connected to many things from breastfeeding success to speech, eating to teeth crowding, overbite to #posture. Typically the shorter/tighter the frenulum (under the tongue) or more severe the #tonguetie (#ankyloglossia class 3 and 4 in particular), the greater impact it may have on nursing, feeding, speech and even posture. But did you know it may cause LESS damage when it comes to dentition? (Indian Journal of Dental Research 2015) The problem is... the less severe tongue-ties are often ignored or dismissed since they are not typically as significant when it come to feeding difficulty in infancy. We have to remember when it come to tongue-tie or tension under the tongue it is all about FUNCTION. The good news is it is never too late! Whether it is recognized in infancy, teenage years or even discovered in adulthood there are many things that can be done and home exercises to help improve and correct these tensions and related changes. This is one of the reasons as a #chiropractor we assess and look at the whole body and how it works together. As the fun childhood song The Skeleton Dance reminds us, every part of us is connected. #tonguetiebabies #duraltension #pipstechnique #pediatricchiropractor #kidchiro #function #allconnected #overbite #ankyloglossiabodyworkers @goldlearning @acornhealth @babyboomcreations @drjennadavis

What is in a face? Learning to differentiate between facial expressions and read emotions is critical for acquiring relevant social information and is rapidly changing in the first year of life. As a practitioner who focuses on and sees many many babies and children I recognize the importance of seeing different faces and expressions for the development these amazing munchkins. ... During infancy they start looking at different faces, recognizing what sounds, facial expressions and tones go together. This is a very important step in learning and development and one that is being missed currently as more and more people are covered with masks and face shields. The tip I have been encouraging practice members is to start having friends and families send videos (with appropriate sound to match their facial expression) and/or photos of themselves, their families, friends. We want to expose your infant and child to as much diversity as far as age, sex, race for the videos. So get out there and take pictures, make a video and send to those you know with infants and toddlers. It takes a village and our babies need to see our face, mouth, teeth, nose so let’s help each other with images to help our kids grow! #brainhealth #faces #chirokids chiropractic #allaboutthebrain #pipstechnique #bodywork #tonguetie #function See more

As the weather stays warm and sunny I have a lot of families asking about what activities they can do to keep working on their families #development, #brainhealth and #behaviour Finding games and simple activities are often the best way to achieve all those things as we want to make our homework to be homeplay. A great example of a #homeplay that works for #neurodevelopment , is outdoor and active, helps with #sensory and #auditoryprocessing challenges, works on #bala...nce and #proprioception and helps integrate many #retainedprimitivereflexes is water play. This example is playing in a sprinkler. It does not have to fancy but ideally a predictable old school sprinkler especially as we introduce it. For adults it is a great moment of reawakening the simple joy as you run through the water. Ideas for progression of play: watch the sprinkler, let it touch our bare toes, touch it with our hand, try to stand as close and as long as we can and then run away just in time to not get wet, run under the dome of water before it gets you and finally run and jump over top and right through the water. You can’t do it wrong so don’t overthink and just play! (I have to say just doing this after my workout made my heart sing and my mood lift as you can see by my smile). #allaboutthebrain #neurodevelopment #fun #outdoors #sensoryprocessing #familyfun #drjennadavis #babyboomcreations #kidchiro #happy #pediatrics #superkids #pediatricchiropractor #nevertoolate

Everyone loves bubbles and with the beautiful weather here this is an amazing activity to play alone or as a family. Benefits of Bubble Play? oralmotor development assist with speech and language... improves tongue function visual tracking gross motor development hand-eye and foot-eye coordination sensory processing body awareness balance and muscle tone development And so much more! Some examples of how amazing for our development play can be... Bubbles can be a great distraction for infants during tummy time. It is amazing for babies while they sit to watch, track and try to pop bubbles by clapping their hands. Once they can jump and run catching and stomping and dancing around bubbles is so much fun and working on many reflexes, sensory processing and overall brain development. Learning to blow bubbles helps with oral motor development and focusing up close and looking away at where they go is amazing for ocular development, convergence, and brain development. So I encourage you, whether you feel you or your child have to work on any of these areas or not these exercises disguised as play time can only benefit! Get outside, be silly, have bubble dance parties with your teenagers, play catch the bubble with your child or introduce your infant to bubbles for the first time! #allaboutthebrain #bubbleplay #sensoryprocessingsensitivity #sensoryplay #retainedprimitivereflexes #oralmotorexercises #pipstechnique #brainbodyconnection #playwork #drjennadavis #babyboomcreations #bubbleplay #balance #posture
