Alright, let’s double check the solid food readiness list: 6 months or older sitting unassisted showing interest in table food ... doesn’t automatically push an offered spoon out of their mouth with their tongue Great! Now we can move on to your introduction plan. Here are some helpful schedules and here are my top tips: 1You can introduce solids (meat, cereal, fruit, veggies, etc) in any order, but you should give iron rich foods first. Iron rich foods include fortified cereals, meat, fish, beans, egg yolks. 2Introduce new foods one at a time to be able to watch for an allergic reaction. 3Until 1 year of age breastfeed or give formula BEFORE solids to help ensure they are getting enough milk.

I know it can seem like a mystery trying to figure out if your breastfed baby is getting enough milk. Thankfully, we have several indicators that help us know just that! It's very important to track wet and poopy diapers to help you know if baby is getting enough milk Having baby weighed on a regular basis (there are community locations designated for JUST weight checks!) Please remember that pumping is not a reliable way to see how much milk you are making, as babies remove milk much more effectively than the pump

A successful breastfeeding journey begins even before that first latch! Breastfeeding education BEFORE baby arrives is SO important. Not sure where to begin? Here are my top resources and tips: **Talk to other mums who have breastfed** (super important) Talk to your prenatal health care providers about your wish to breastfeed Find local breastfeeding groups like La Leche League (link below) ... Look at reliable websites or books - Kellymom.com, la Leche league, Dr. Jack Newman (links below) Collect contact information for lactation consultants at public health or private consultants, and call to find out how to make an appointment - I recommend all postpartum breastfeeding mums meet with a qualified lactation consultant as soon after birth as possible (public health and Kerri zandberg links below) Buy supplies - pillow, nipple cream, breast pads https://www.chatham-kent.ca//pregnancy-child/breastfeeding https://www.lllc.ca/ https://ibconline.ca/ https://www.havenwellnessspa.ca/kerrizandberg https://www.lllc.ca/lllc-chatham

Torticollis is a "twisted neck". In babies this is most often due to their position in the uterus before birth, or from pressure applied to the head and neck during birth. Either of these can cause joints in the baby’s neck to not be moving well, and tightness in the muscles of the neck. Babies with torticollis often only look to one side, only like to nurse off of one breast, and always look like their head is only in one position when you look at them in pictures. But I can help! Chiropractic helps babies with Torticollis by improving joint function and decreasing tightness in musculature, which then allows the baby to move their head and neck freely. And remember, baby adjustments are SO gentle!

Last month I shared about the birth of my first babe. Can't leave baby #2 (Julianne) hanging so here's her birth story! My second labour was totally different from my first - I had a terrible cold. I woke up at about midnight coughing and decided to go make some tea. I sat up in bed, coughed, and felt my water break! After a trip to the bathroom, I spent some time thinking about what I was supposed to do...lol. I read my midwife book, which told me that I needed to call if ...my water broke. I spoke with my midwife, who told me to finish my tea and to go back to bed. Before I went back to bed I told my husband what was going on, and to go back to sleep. I slept, not well, but at least I got some rest. My husband apparently didn't sleep as he was anxious - apparently I should have left him sleeping! I couldn't sleep after about 5am - I got up and was walking around and timing my contractions. I called the midwife around 6am, as I wanted her input, as my contractions were about 4 minutes apart, but only 30 seconds long - not the 5 minutes apart, 1 minute long that I was told to look for! We decided to go to the hospital. By the time I got there a bit after 7am I was definitely in labour. I was 4-5cm, and we ordered my epidural. I had a fast labour - by 10am I was pushing. My daughter was born at 10:34am :) I was home that same day by 5pm. I hearing birth stories - feel free to share yours in the comments!

Baby chiropractic isn't the same as adult chiropractic! There is no crunching or cracking There is not any use of heavy force or adjusting instruments It involves very gentle pressure being applied to the joints of the spine and sometimes the jaw ... Babies are placed on a cozy pillow for their adjustment, but if needed can also be held Lots of babies rest peacefully or even sleep during their appointments! See more

Skin-to-skin (or Kangaroo Care) was one of my favorite ways to bond with my newborns. SO many health benefits and SO easy literally anyone can do it.

Truth. This is why you need to invest in self-care (like chiropractic!) during the "fourth trimester"!

Ohhh... so important. I attended pelvic health physio during pregnancy as well as post partum to make sure my pelvic floor was back in shape! The physiotherapists were so helpful and made the appointments very comfortable. I did my exercises daily at home and recovered in no time! It's never too late to go for pelvic health physio, even if it has been years since your babies were born. I discuss pelvic physio with most of my pregnancy patients as an important part of recovery after delivery of their baby :). It’s usually a bit nerve-wracking introducing a new sibling to the family. We tried hard to include our oldest (then 6 years old)when our second baby arrived. She loved to be helpful! She wanted to help with getting toys, diapers, picking out clothes, getting blankets, reading books, letting me know when the baby was crying, trying to calm her sister when she was upset.
