Naturopathic medicine focuses on preventing illness; at least as much as we can. Fall means we’re getting into cold and flu season, and there are lots of ways to optimize your health to prevent illness and improve your recovery. One of my favourite treatments for stimulating the immune system is a WARMING SOCK TREATMENT Soak a pair of regular cotton socks in cold water and wring them out until only damp, pop them in the freezer for 5-10 minutes... Take a warm bath or shower, or just soak your feet in warm water for 15 minutes Dry off feet, put on cold socks, put a pair of wool socks overtop of the damp socks (making sure the socks aren’t too tight so they don’t impair circulation to your feet) Go snuggle up in bed for the night! The damp socks will initially cause blood vessels to constrict but eventually they will dilate, and this will allow the blood circulation to warm up and dry the wet socks. This pulls congestion away from the head and helps to stimulate the immune system. There’s only a few more months to use your extended benefits! If you’ve been wanting to take control of your health, feel free to send me a DM with any questions about how naturopathic medicine can benefit you! I also offer free 15- minute Meet & Greet visits if you are interested in learning more about naturopathic medicine (Find in the link in my bio!) *Disclaimer: Information is empowering but this information is for educational purposes only and not meant to diagnose or prescribe. Please consult your licensed physician before adding to or changing your treatment plan to ensure the changes are safe for you.* #naturopathicdoctor #naturopath #southdeltaND #dancingdoctor #naturopathicmedicine #collaborativewellnessladner #ladner

Let's talk about periods. The menstrual cycle tells us a lot about a woman's overall health and show be viewed as any other vital sign like blood pressure or heart rate! The important thing to remember is that just because something is COMMON does not mean that it's NORMAL. So to answer the first question... No, period cramps are NOT normal. They may be a common symptom with getting your period, but a healthy period should come with very few symptoms.... For example, a healthy menstrual cycle should: Be regular and between 25-30 days long (counted from the first day of full flow). Have a period length of 3-7 days of bleeding with no spotting before the onset, and at least 1 day of medium-heavy flow. Have period blood that is bright to dark red in colour with no clots. Be between 30-80mL of blood loss per cycle (approximately 3-5 pads or tampons each day or easily tracked with using a menstrual cup). Absence of significant PMS symptoms (cramping, headaches, mood swings, breast tenderness, acne, bloating, diarrhea, constipation, hot flashes, insomnia, etc.) Often, women are taught to just suffer through their "time of the month" but you shouldn't have to! You shouldn't have to miss school or work. You shouldn't have to take pain medication. You shouldn't have to be concerned about leaking through a pad. If your period affects how you live, let's get to the root cause of what's happening and fix it!

VITAMIN B12 FUNDRAISER A few weeks ago I learned about little Lucy Van Doormaal and how her family was fundraising 3 million dollars for genetic therapy for her diagnosis of SMA1. If you haven’t heard her story, check out their Instagram page to learn more (@lifeforlucy_)! Ever since learning about her story I’ve been trying to think about how I can do something to give more. ... This Saturday (July 25th) I will be running a B12 injection fundraiser and donating all proceeds to Lucy (Minimum donation of $15) If you are not currently a patient at @collaborativewellnessladner, you will need to make an account online to book an appointment so we can send you a COVID-19 screening and injection consent form prior to your visit. If you are already a patient, you can book in the link in my bio under B12 Injection Fundraiser. I will also be doing a raffle for a FREE Naturopathic Consult First visit OR Return Visit 60-min/ Acupuncture to ONE lucky winner who books in for the fundraiser! Vitamin B12 plays a role in DNA synthesis, red blood cell formation, the nervous system and immune function. B12 is found in animal products, therefore people that eat a plant-based diet require supplementation, as well as people with decreased absorption (Celiac disease, gastritis, Crohn’s disease, H. Pylori infection, pernicious anemia, and advanced age). Vitamin B12 is also commonly deficient in people taking acid-blocking medications, oral birth control, metformin, and other medications. Vitamin B12 can be helpful for low energy, anxiety, headaches/migraines, constipation/diarrhea, muscle cramps, atherosclerosis, diabetes, asthma, ringing ears, and more! Disclaimer: All patients will be required to complete a COVID-19 screening form prior to their visit. All patients will be required to provide a brief medical history to determine indication and safety of administration of IM Vitamin B12. Extra time will be added between patients for sanitization. What is your body trying to tell you? Physical symptoms not only tell us what’s going on inside the body but also reflect your mental and emotional states. ... Have you noticed ongoing stomach aches, headaches, fatigue, changes in bowel patterns (constipation/diarrhea), heartburn, nausea or unexplained rashes? These are all common concerns I see that are linked to increased stress. If we were to just focus on the physical symptom, it would merely put a bandaid on the real issue. By tackling the root cause of stress we can truly resolve the physical manifestations. Take a moment today to listen to what your body is trying to tell you. #stress #anxiety #constipation #diarrhea #nausea #headache #stomachache #fatigue #heartburn #rootcause #naturopathicdoctor #naturopath #southdeltaND #dancingdoctor #naturopathicmedicine #collaborativewellnessladner #ladner #tsawwassen #bestyearever See more

I’ve taken the past couple weeks to listen, learn, unlearn, and sit in the discomfort of unravelling white supremacy and privilege. It’s been overwhelming but I’m committed to continuing to learn and unlearn moving forward. One feeling that I have been processing is guilt. Guilt because outwardly I am a white cis woman. Guilt because for those who don’t know, in the past year I was able to meet my maternal grandfather for the first time who is Black. I wil...l never truly understand the impact of racism and discrimination that my other family members deal with. I can’t change the colour of my skin but I can use my white privilege to speak up about the inequalities that still exist. One quote that has really resonated with me in all aspects of life is Do the best you can until you know better. Then when you know better, do better. (Maya Angelou) This work comes with making mistakes and learning from those mistakes. We can all do better and should want to continue to do better. I’m committed to that journey. I will continue to share resources and voices that need to be heard and would love to know of any of your recommendations as well! See more
