Toxic Tuesday: Mercury amalgam fillings - making you sick in three ways! Part one: Toxic mercury exposure As unbelievable as it may seem, the American Dental... Association (ADA) is still sticking to their story that "there is no evidence of harm from 'silver fillings'". Of course, they use the term "silver fillings" to fool you into thinking that they are made from only silver, but in fact, they actually contain mercury (more the 50%!!). The average mercury amalgam filling will have between 250-500mg of mercury in it. Now get this: as a comparison, the average compact fluorescent light bulb has 4mg of mercury in it. If a CFL breaks, here is what the EPA recommends that you do: Before Cleanup - Evacuate the room. Air out the room for 5-10 minutes. Shut off all HVAC. Collect materials needed to clean up broken bulb: stiff paper or cardboard; sticky tape; and a glass jar with a metal lid or a sealable plastic bag. During Cleanup: DO NOT VACUUM. Vacuuming will spread mercury-containing powder or mercury vapor. Collect all broken glass and visible powder. Place clean-up material in the glass jar or plastic bag. Place cleanup materials in a sealable container. After Cleanup: Put all bulb debris and cleanup materials in a trash container or protected area in an outside location. Next, check with your local government about disposal requirements in your area, because some localities require fluorescent bulbs (broken or unbroken) to be taken to a local recycling center. If there is no such requirement in your area, you can dispose of the materials with your household trash. Continue to air out the room where the bulb was broken and leave the heating/air conditioning system shut off for several hours. If this much precaution is being recommended for 4mg of mercury, don't you think that putting 250-500mg of mercury PER TOOTH in your MOUTH seems outrageously stupid? Note: Every dentist who is an ADA member is, directly and indirectly, supporting the ADA's stance. #blodgettdentalcare #holisticdentist #Mercuryfilling #Mercurysafety #toxictuesday #toxins #wholehelath
