Why we have to be more specific and informed about adrenal fatigue - an informed opinion piece!

Anybody else feeling super motivated to get back into workouts? After spending 6 days hiking the La Cloche Mountain Range bear Killarney, Ontario, I feel such a sense of motivation to get back into my running routine! Feeling stronger and pushing my paces harder after a few days of harder and slower climbing on magnificent hikes. I have learned to enjoy a yin/yang approach to my exercise letting the push and pull ebb and flow with how my energy levels change. ... I often recommend workouts to patients based on their bodies’ energetic needs. We all need balance, and yet we all need daily movement. Yin exercise types being a slower, colder, harder, creative forms of exercise such as hiking, rock climbing, power flow yoga, restorative yoga, weight lifting. Yang forms being more intense, hot, energetic such as hot pilates, running, HIIT workouts and spin classes.

I just had a conversation with a patient about her dietary changes we implemented last visit and it was a good reminder - I had to share! This patient was wanting to know How long they’d have to stick to their low sugar (25g/day) diet... for their PCOS. [side note: 25g is the Canadian RDA - so this truly isn’t even a low sugar diet!!!] ... I always try to be realistic and to give time-bound goals for my clients - so this patient was shocked (and honestly, a little disappointed) when I said, as compassionately as possible, Indefinitely. But, with a catch Here’s the thing: I do NOT expect PERFECTION!!! I myself am not perfect... So how could I expect you to be perfect? Anddddd LIFE IS MEANT TO BE ENJOYED. I have always said, since day 1 as a naturopath, 80/20 is my nutrition rule. Which means we get to enjoy a sweet treat with a friend, an occasional class of wine with dinner, or a piece of cake to celebrate a milestone. This does not mean daily consumption of our treats. If we truly want to change our body, mind and our physiology we have to be CONSISTENT! This is true when you’re training for a marathon, triathlon or a sport. Consistency is key. The same goes for your nutrition plan. This is why it is SO HELPFUL to work with a supportive nutritionist alongside a naturopath - this is why I work with THREE in my clinic. Change takes time, and it takes challenging your normal. Healthy eating is a lifestyle and that takes training, coaching and plenty of supportive resources !

Here is a fun series of photos! The first picture is my office set up as it currently exists! Flip to see the second and third pictures what things looked like just about one year ago, when @verdurewellnessclinic was getting ready to open and I didn’t have any furniture in place year. Note the mishmash of drawer units I CANNOT believe the amount of growth that has occurred in this business in our first year! I am so darn proud, and soooo thankful for my AMAZING teammates, staff, my supportive family and partner. @ Waterloo, Ontario
