We are happy to welcome naturopath, Dr. Lauren MacIntosh, Naturopathic Doctor to our team who will be covering for Dr. Anna's leave at our Dartmouth location! Her treatment plans are individualized for each patient to ensure optimal outcomes. She believes that every patient deserves to have all aspects of their health to be considered, not just their symptoms alone. Lauren has a special interest in treating hormonal health, which ranges from thyroid conditions and dealing with high stress environments to menopause, menstrual and fertility concerns by using natural interventions. Melatonin for Endometriosis . . . Melatonin is a naturally occurring hormone that helps to regulate sleep-wake cycles within the body, so you might be wondering how or why it works for endometriosis.... . . . Melatonin is coming to the forefront for its role as an analgesic, anti-inflammatory and antioxidant. A RCT from 2013 highlighted the efficacy of melatonin compared to placebo in the treatment of endometriosis associated chronic pelvic pain. Results showed a reduction in daily pain scores by 39.5%, dysmenorrhea (painful periods) by 38.1% and reduced analgesic use by 80%. . . . Did you know that March is Endometriosis Awareness month? How about that approximately one in 10 women have endometriosis? Or that it takes most women up to 10 years to be properly diagnosed? . .... . Yep, you read that right. 10 years. 10 + years of pain and unanswered questions. . . . Endometriosis is a painful, chronic condition in which endometrial tissue will grow outside of the uterus. This leads to painful and heavy periods, painful intercourse, issues with fertility. The list goes on. . . . The only way to properly diagnose and treat endometriosis is through laparoscopic surgery, however, natural therapies have been shown to significantly reduce pain and suffering in those with endometriosis. - #endometriosis #endo #endowarrior #endometriosisawareness #fertility anxiety #depression #hormonalhealth #hormones #naturopath #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathdartmouth #dartmouth #halifax #HRM #health #wellness #fertilityhalifax #fertilitydartmouth #ttc

Digestion and Probiotics Digestion is one of my favourite things to treat in practice. Digestive issues affect not only your digestive health, but your immune health, mental health, skin health and so much more. . . .... Probiotics are a staple when it comes to digestive issues. They help to repopulate the gut flora with naturally occurring bacteria and yeast, working to regulate the digestive system. There are many different strains of probiotics, therefore it is important to consult with a healthcare professional to find out what strains are right for you! . . . Are you experiencing hair loss? Do you notice more hair on your brush, coming out in the shower, or all over your floors? Is your ponytail not as full as it was before? Or maybe your hairline is receding? . . . There are a variety of factors that can cause hair loss in women, the main culprit being your hormones.... Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) aka a metabolite of testosterone- it shrinks the hair follicles, making it easier to fall out or break off. Thyroid hormones- both underactive and overactive thyroid hormones can cause hair to fall out. Cortisol aka your stress hormone- when your body is prioritizing the production of cortisol due to prolonged stress, it is underproducing other hormones that are key for hair growth. . . Opt for hormonal testing to see what’s causing your hair loss! - #naturopath #naturopathicdoctor #naturopathdartmouth #dartmouth #natural #treatnaturally #health #wellness #hormones #hormonalhealth #happyhormones #hormonedoctor #PCOS #hairloss #healthyhair #womanshealth #stress #kinesishealth #kinesishealthassociates See more
