Hormones and moods. Let's harness our hormones for good. I'm leading the charge. It's time for a Bitch Redux. https://lttr.ai/eP3N #moodswings #HellBreaksLoose #hormonebalance #womenshealth #PMS #torontonaturopath

Yup, there's an app for that! All menstruators should be tracking their monthly menstrual cycles. And NOT just your periods. I want women to track their periods, but also the other symptoms associated with their hormone balance. Headaches, food cravings, mood swings, breast tenderness, libido. The more that we observe and learn from our body, the more she will teach us.... I love the Flo app and Clue. Are you using an app that you LoVE? #periodknowledge #periodpower #theresanappforthat #womenshealth #tuesdaytips #tiptuesday

Damn right I'm a feminist. Today and every day. Happy International Women's Day to all the feminists out there, regardless of your sex or gender. #choosetochallenge #IWD2021

Dr. Lisa Watson, ND 23.02.2021

On International Women's Day we are asked to challenge inequality. To recognize gender inequality in our lives, and #choosetochallenge the gender gap. In health care the gender gap is alarming. I see women every day who have experienced first hand the lack of knowledge on women's bodies and hormones, and the dismissal of women's symptoms as trivial or due to mental emotional concerns. Every day I choose to challenge the bias against women in my profession. I want to ed...ucate women on the gap in health care for women, and teach them how to be their own most powerful advocate. #internationalwomensday2021 #equality #gendergap #genderbias

The symptoms of hypothyroidism, can sound a lot like the symptoms of perimenopause fatigue, low mood, hair loss, weight gain, brain fog, and more. So what's a woman to do? SO many women tell me that they are surprised when they start to have hormonal symptoms at 40. But honestly, we shouldn't be surprised. Many of us start to have symptoms of perimenopause at 40 - or before! The problem is WE AREN'T TALKING ABOUT THIS. Doctors aren't talking about this. Our mothers didn't talk about this. We are relying on the internet to give us information. Now don't get me wrong, the internet is a wealth of information. But really, our doctors and ...health care providers should be supporting women through this transition. And that's where I come in. I'm on a mission to support and educate women on hormone changes across the lifespan. So nothing is a surprise, and we can all support and uplift each other. Got questions?? Send me a DM. Send a carrier pigeon (or phoenix!) . Write it in the sky. I'm here to help. #hotmesswellness #perimenopausesucks #perimenopausedoesnthavetosuck

Have you ever wondered if it's MORE THAN JUST YOUR THYROID? With 1 in 4 women having a thyroid condition, many women think that once they get their thyroid balanced they'll feel like themselves again. But for many women, the problem is more than just their thyroid. Their fatigue, weight gain, depression, and lack of libido may be the result of more than one hormone imbalance. ... High estrogen increases the production of thyroid binding globulin (TBG) which prevents your body from using thyroid hormones. Low progesterone can occur as a result of low T3 (a common consequence of synthroid) which leaves women feeling less sexy, more PMS-y and with a terrible tolerance to stress.

Dr. Lisa Watson, ND 28.01.2021

The fact that this statistic is true, even in the year 2021, boggles my mind. Black women experience more bias in the health care system - bias based on their gender, bias based on their race, bias based on their body type, and bias based on socioeconomic status. I am grateful to live in Canada where we at least have universal access to health care, but that doesn't eliminate all the bias that POC experience. It's time to do better. It's time to demand better. #bla...ckhealthmatters #blackhistorymonth See more

You don't have to embrace the demon and just put up with PMS. If you feel overwhelmed, volatile, and downright demonic during your PMS, there might be a hormonal reason for it. PMS can be a result of several different hormone imbalances. High estrogen can lead to a severe drop in estrogen levels before our period - leaving us feeling isolated, wanting to spend time alone (or at least away from EVERYONE ELSE), irritable and depressed.... Low progesterone can cause a feeling of overwhelm, more stress/ difficulty managing our stress, sadness, irritability, anger, and feeling out of control. The good news is that BOTH of these hormone imbalances are treatable. And often women start to feel better within the first few cycles of balancing their hormones. So what are you waiting for? It's time to banish that demon and feel like ourselves, every day of the cycle. #PMSsucks

Is the birth control pill fucking with your thyroid?? The birth control pill has many side effects, and there are lots of reasons to be concerned about its use (https://drlisawatson.com/problems-with-the-pill) - but could it be messing with your thyroid? The Pill contains high levels of estrogen - way higher than you would normally make in a month. And one of the (many) consequences of that high estrogen is an increase in the production of a little protein called Thyroid B...inding Globulin. And what does that little protein do? Well, it binds to your thyroid hormones and keeps them from being used by your body. Which leaves YOU feeling tired, cold, and gaining weight. Not cool, birth control pill. Not cool. If you are ready to ditch the pill and reclaim your hormone balance, let's talk! I LOVE helping women get off the pill and live their best, balanced, lives.

It's time to look at PMS differently. It's time to honour the fluctuations in our hormones and the POWER that they give to women. Our hormones make us emotional - but that's not a bad thing. Our hormones make us more sensitive, more connected, more empathetic, more connected to others. It's one of the best things about being a woman. During PMS women are at their most sensitive, their most introspective, their most in touch with their emotional selves. It can be intense.... But if we look at this time as a time of power, we can change our experience. (I'm not talking to you, women with PMDD. Your PMS is too intense, too sensitive, too overwhelming. If you have PMDD, please speak to a knowledgeable practitioner to get the support you need) #PMSpower

As I have mentioned so many times before, many women with PCOS aren't properly diagnosed. Seeing as it PCOS affects 1 in every 10 women, of course there will be celebrities who have this condition! One of those celebrities includes Star Wars bad ass Daisy Ridley! Ridley writes on her Instagram - "At 15 I was diagnosed with endometriosis. One laparoscopy, many consultations and 8 years down the line, pain was back (more mild this time!) and my skin was THE WORST. I've tr...ied everything: products, antibiotics, more products, more antibiotics) and all that did was left my body in a bit of a mess. Finally found out I have polycystic ovaries and that's why it's bad." At times, our own light goes out and is rekindled by a spark from another person. Each of us has cause to think with deep gratitude of those who have lighted the flame within us. Albert Schweitzer I work hard to be a firestarter for others - igniting the spark of healthy living and abundant health in the people who see me in my naturopathic practice. We often think of PCOS in terms of what it does to our periods, but the hormonal changes of PCOS impact A LOT more than our cycles. Women with PCOS are more likely to experience both anxiety and depression than other women the same age. This could be due to lower #progesterone levels found in women with PCOS. But no matter what the cause, we CAN NOT ignore the mental health challenges associated with this diagnosis. #mentalhealthmatters ... https://drlisawatson.com/pcos-and-mental-health

PCOS is a poorly named condition. While many of the women with PCOS do have cysts on their ovaries, some do not. As a "syndrome", PCOS manifests differently in each woman. This is why an individualized approach is so important. Not every woman with PCOS misses periods. Not every woman with PCOS grows facial hair. Not every woman with PCOS is overweight or insulin resistant. We each experience PCOS in our own way. #funfactfriday #pcosawarenessmonth
