It will be hard to be away from little Vera but I am happy to say that I am back treating patients! I am offering in person appointments as needed as well as virtual/telephone consults to maintain physical distancing. .... Things look a little different around the clinic now so if you have any questions about what an in person appointment or acupuncture session will look like, please do not hesitate to reach out! @ Severn, Ontario

After a long break from social media.. and some time on my hands in light of our current situation, no time like the present to post an update! . On a professional note.. our clinic doors have closed for the time being in order to help protect the health and safety of our patients and community. Lake Country Physiotherapy will still be accepting calls and phone consults are available for those with upcoming appointments.... . On a more personal note, after a wonderful (and long) 9 months, Taylor and I are getting excited to welcome our baby girl into this crazy world sometime in the next few weeks! For anyone who is feeling anxious and nervous in these unsettling times, I am right there with you. But by working together and following the guidelines for social distancing and quarantining I believe we will come out the other side stronger than ever! For now, eye contact and a smile from a distance can go a long way.

Thanks OAND for another great conference last weekend! (always about a week behind making my posts!).. I find conferences are one of the best ways to keep up to date on what is happening in our rapidly evolving field of medicine.. From critical thinking in gut disorders to harnessing the power of herbs during this cold and flu season, Soo many great take aways I can't wait to use with patients!

An apple a dayKeeps the doctor away! Hearing a patient has decided to cancel a follow-up because they are feeling so much better is music to my ears! Tune ups are important and I LOVE seeing my patients around the office BUT if you are maintaining your hard earned good health on your own all I can say is, great job and keep it up! . . #timeforonemorehalloweenpic #naturopathicmedicine #orillianaturopath #naturopathicdoctor #doctorasteacher #integrativemedicine #wellness

From Whitehorse to Tombstone to catching Salmon in Alaska I don't think we could have fit much more into a few weeks! Will miss you guys more than ever but can't wait for the next adventure! @ Tombstone Territorial Park

I have been hearing a lot of confusion lately around ticks and Lyme disease... so, let’s clear this up! . If bit by a tick:... 1) Gently remove it with tweezers as close to the skin as possible and put it in a secure air tight container. 2) Wash skin with soap/water and disinfect hands and skin with rubbing alcohol or iodine swab. 3) Call your local public health unit. In Orillia, this is North Simcoe Muskoka (210 Memorial Ave 705-326-7750) . . If bit by a tick and you have NO symptoms: 1) If the tick was attached for <24 hrs, your risk of Lyme disease is low. We do not advise treatment but do suggest you monitor for signs/symptoms for 30 days (Expanding rash >5cm anywhere on the body, fever, headache, stiff neck, muscle aches, swollen lymph nodes). 2) If tick was attached for >24 hrs, from an area with a prevalence of infected ticks >20% (see map) you are at risk for Lyme disease and your doctor may recommend post-exposure prophylaxis (an antibiotic). Call your local health unit and make an appointment with your family doctor. . . If bit by a tick and you have symptoms (mentioned above) 3-30 days following tick exposure, make an appointment with your doctor as soon as possible to discuss your treatment options. The risk of developing Lyme disease following a tick bite by an infected tick is between 1-3%. Don’t let the idea of Lyme disease scare you out of enjoying your summer! Checking your skin when coming in from outside is a great first step towards prevention. A beautiful and powerful talk by Jennifer Brea. The way society perceives you and your disease affects your treatment. Compassion and empathy instead of judgement can go a long way towards changing the stigma around myalgic encephalomyelitis and fibromyalgia. https://www.ted.com//jen_brea_what_happens_when_you_have_a
