Hi I’ve missed you guys. It’s been a hot minute since I’ve seen many of your faces. I’ve needed some time to rest, reflect and reset and I thank you for sticking with me through it (but I’m not sorry about it). One of the biggest lessons that I have learned is that it’s okay to feel like you don’t have your sh!t together but that you have to keep showing up for yourself.... Below are a fews ways I’ve been trying to #showup for myself: Be present. Take a moment to soak it all in. Breathe. Listen. Feel. Manifest. Write at least one thing down everyday that you want to accomplish. For me this can be a workout, responding to emails, checking in on a friend, having a shower etc. Start as small as you need to. Put on an outfit that I feel good in and give myself a compliment. Practice gratitude. Take a few moments to focus on all of the wonderful things/people that are in your life right now. Reprioritize. Stop wasting your energy on things/people that don’t make you feel good. It’s okay that our priorities change as we evolve. Create firmer boundaries. This has meant saying no to things that don’t make feel good and a lot less time on my phone and apologizing for things that I don’t need to be sorry about. Some days the actions may be bigger than others and that’s cool! The important part is that you still showed up! How are you showing up for yourself today? What can you do today that would make it feel like a win ?

How well are you listening to what your body is telling you? Maybe it’s a headache that keeps popping up? A feeling of overwhelm? An unexpected and urgent trip to the bathroom? Or a period that puts you out of commission for a few days? Those pesky little symptoms that keep popping up may actually be your body’s way of communicating to you that something is not quite in balance.... So how do we start to figure out what’s actually going on and honouring our body? Start by paying attention. Take a moment to check-in with yourself right now and notice any areas where you might be carrying tension or that just feel ‘off’? Write it down. Keeping track of the what/where/when of how you’re feeling, along with other determinants of health, can help to provide insight into the areas of your health that may require some attention. Here are a few areas you may want to consider tracking: Menstrual cycle/ovulation (more on this in a future post) Bowel movements Energy Food intake Water intake Movement Sleep Mood Self-care practices Specific concerns (pain, headaches, heartburn etc.) It’s time to start listening and make friends with your body again! Who is with me?

Mental Health Check- In How are you doing ? What’s helping to keep you grounded right now? There’s no doubt that these past couple of weeks have been tough, leaving us all with more questions than answers. ... I wanted to share a few of the things that I have found helpful: 1. Routine. Maintaining a consistent routine in the areas that I can control (sleep/wake times, timing of meals, supplement regimen , personal hygiene, getting dressed etc.) has been helping to give me some sense of normalcy in my days. 2. Mindfulness. Allow yourself to feel whatever you need to right now. It’s okay to grieve time lost with loved ones, events/trips that you were planning, freedom etc. Practices like meditation and journaling can help to provide a space for you to check-in with yourself. 3. Gratitude. This can be a challenging practice at a time like this, which makes it even more important. I’m incredibly grateful for everyone out there working to help fight this and that we live in a country where our government is able to help take care of its people 4. Boundaries. Limiting my time on social media platforms and other sites that leave me feeling triggered. 5. Movement. Move your body every day. There’s so many free resources available for home workouts. Try something different #youtubedancetutorials 6. Get outside. Feel that fresh air on your face, even if it’s just hanging out on a balcony catching some rays. 7. Creativity. Find a creative outlet. I’ve been experimenting with watercolour painting #colourtherapy 8. Connection. Check in with loved ones and neighbours through technology to see how they are doing. Share with them how you are feeling. 9. Compassion. Practice compassion towards others and yourself. It’s a tough time for everyone right now My gentle reminder for you all: You are doing the best that you can right now. We are all in this together and we will heal from this. Wondering where all of your energy has gone? It may be time to investigate where your energy leaks are. Let’s think of our energy like a bank account. We can make energy deposits by:... Fuelling our body with nutrient-dense foods Hydrating our body Getting 8 hours of sleep Moving our bodies in a way that is nourishing Setting boundaries Having meaningful connections Doing things that bring us pleasure Self-talk ... but these are also areas where we can be withdrawing more energy than we are depositing. If you saw that your bank account had money randomly withdrawn , you’d want to figure out where it went. This is the same with our energy. Bring awareness to the energy leaks so that we can start to plug them. What’s your biggest energy leak right now? If you’re not sure, make an inventory list of things that energize you and things that drain you. Boundaries and self-talk are at the top of my list right now. Please note, if you are experiencing low energy it is important to speak with a qualified health professional to help determine why. DM me if you’re ready to reclaim your energy!

What we need is more self-compassion, more gentle acceptance of all the difficult emotions coming up for us now, more focus on gentle ways to soothe ourselves and our pain and the pain of loved ones around us...

Cottage Country Massage & Wellness Clinic is temporarily closed! Telemedicine (phone/video) consults are available to new and existing naturopathic patients.

Dr. Emmalee Maracle ND 23.08.2020

In light of the COVID-19 outbreak, it remains my top priority to continue to provide high-quality naturopathic care in a safe and healthy environment. With the health of your family, my family and the health of our community in mind, all scheduled naturopathic consults for the Parry Sound location will be moved to telemedicine (online) consults until April 6th, 2020. This means naturopathic consults in the comfort of your home/office using an online video/audio platform. Pat...ients who are scheduled in the upcoming weeks will be contacted with further details. I recognize that there is a significant amount of fear and anxiety around what this outbreak means however, I also recognize that there is a tremendous role for naturopathic medicine to play here and want you to feel supported during these uncertain times. Currently, there is no treatment or vaccination for COVID-19 so the aim is to support a healthy and robust immune system. What can you do to stay healthy? * Eat a whole foods diet rich in a variety of vegetables and fruit * Lots of onions and garlic * Avoid refined sugars * Stay well hydrated * Ensure adequate rest (7-9 hours of quality sleep) * Consider a humidifier in the bedroom * Practice some type of stress management/self-care (get outside, meditation, at-home gym workout etc.) * Contrast Showers (hot and cold) * Avoid unnecessary travel or gathering in group settings * Keep in contact with friends/family through technology (FaceTime or phone calls) If you have any questions, please reach out ! Let’s all do our part to keep our community well.

Holiday Essentials Keep your digestive health happy through all the holiday parties and turkey dinners: Focus on eating a whole foods with a variety of vegetables, fruits, proteins and healthy fats Warm or cooked foods are going to be easier on the digestive system during the winter months so bring on the soups and stews. ... Avoid overindulging (see yesterday’s post for tips) Consider adding in some digestive aids (digestive enzymes, betaine hcl, apple cider vinegar or digestive bitters), especially if you know there’s going to be a few things on the menu that you don’t typically eat. Stay hydrated, especially if you’re planning on having a few alcoholic drinks. Any non-caffeinated beverages, such as herbal teas, are a nice way to stay warm and hydrated. Consider adding in some fermented foods (naturally fermented vegetables, kimchi, sauerkraut, Kombucha etc.) and/or probiotics. Before adding in any type of supplementation, speak with your naturopathic doctor to ensure that dosing is safe and in therapeutic range. @drashley.nd #guthealth #digestivehealth #wetalkaboutpoop See more
