Offering advice to your child might not always be the solution! Parents want the best for their children, and providing advice is often the best form of guidance. However, sometimes this is not the most effective solution, and can create communication problems. One of the most effective ways to nurture your child’s mental health is by active listening. If you find your child struggling mentally, instead of providing solutions to a problem you see, focused attention and... listening can be the most helpful in making them feel supported. Active listening creates stronger bonds between a parent and child and helps them feel encouraged to seek support in the future. #parenttips #parenting #mentalhealth #kids
How can we resolve relationship conflict in healthy ways? No relationship is perfect; arguments are normal and help us learn things about our partners. However, when we get into arguments, there are several factors that can have an impact on how clearly we are thinking. If we are overly tired from a long day's work, or irritable from a lack of sleep, this will translate over into how we communicate during arguments. It is important to keep this in mind as a bitter mood could... make an issue worse. We can resolve conflict in more healthy ways by being clear-headed and understanding how our emotions impact our readiness to communicate. I feel like my partner doesn’t validate my feelings If you’ve ever found yourself saying these things, it is most important to be mindful of any criticism that you are using. It is difficult for someone to validate feelings when they feel accused. A helpful strategy is to describe the impact that your partners’ behaviour has on you. Keeping a goal journal can be a very effective way to track your resolutions and help you organize your strategy. Setting aside 10-15 minutes a day to journal helps keep you committed to your goals and resolutions. You can think of it as a self-coaching session. If you are taking the time to journal you are also taking that time to think about your resolutions so you can better understand how you’re going to achieve them.
