Sault Ste. Marie had a pretty big snowfall last night! I thought that it was appropriate to review some Shovelling Tips provided by the CCA to help get you through the winter months! 1. Warm up This may sound silly, but why should shovelling be different than any other form of exercise? Before you begin shovelling take a few minutes to walk around your block to help kickstart your muscles!... 2. Don’t let the snow pile up If the weather reports for continuous snowfall, frequent shovelling will allow you to move smaller amounts of snow. 3. Pick the right shovel Lightweight push shovel is best!! 4. Push, Don’t Throw When possible, push the snow rather than throwing it! This will help you to avoid heavy lifting. 5. Bend Your Knees If you do need to lift the snow when shovelling, bend from your knees and use your leg muscles to lift the snow rather than bending at your back. Effective starting Monday Dec 14th A few changes to my hours: - I will be switching my late hours from Wednesday to Tuesday evening. I chose to do this for scheduling convenience for those of you who can only make it to the office after work! - I have also extended my hours on Monday and Wednesday to accommodate more one-on-one pilates clients!! ... Looking for the perfect Fall recipe?? Look no further: Spaghetti Squash with Kale and Sausage My mom gave me a Fall food calendar today and this was the dedicated October recipe! What you need:... 1 spaghetti squash 2 tablespoons of olive oil 500g of sausage (I used HOT Pinos sausage for you all Sault Ste. Marie folks) 1 Spanish onion 8 cups of kale (used the remaining kale in my garden- PERFECT) 1/2 cup of chicken broth 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese, panko bread crumbs and parsley To cook: Cut squash in half lengthwise, scoop out seeds, brush with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Place squash cut side down and roast in fhe oven at 400F for 45 mins. While this is cooking, pan fry the sausage at medium high heat until cooked. Transfer to a bowl. Reduce heat in pan to medium. Add oil, garlic, onion and salt and pepper to taste. Cook until onion is softened (~3 min). Add kale, tossing to coat. Then pour in broth and cover for about 5 mins. When the spaghetti squash is cooked, use a fork to rake the spqghetti like strands from the squash. Combine sausage, kale mixture and squash in a bowl. Divide mixture between two squash halves. In a small bowl combine cheese, bread crumbs and parsley. Mix and sprinkle over the squash halves. Cook in oven for 25 min T 375F. Pilates level 2: Reformer This past weekend I had my first Pilates level 2 learning module! This course adds on to the knowledge in Level 1 mat Pilates but goes more in depth with client postural assessment, how to design one-on-one Pilates rehabilitation programs AND introduces a whole new repertoire of exercises using the reformer. After just one weekend of class I have gained SO MUCH knowledge and am excited to share it with all of you ... I have already begun using the reformer in my Clinical Pilates + Chiropractic combination appointments and it has been so beneficial for my clients. Monday Announcement! I will be hosting a 4-week ZOOM Pilates program during the month of October! The dates are as follows:... Week 1: Wednesday October 7th at 8pm & Saturday October 10th at 8am Week 2: Wednesday October 14th at 8pm & Saturday October 17th at 8am Week 3: Wednesday October 21st at 8pm & Saturday October 24th at 8am Week 4: Wednesday October 28th at 8pm & Saturday October 31st at 8am The classes will be 40 minutes long and will include a 5-minute warm up, 30 minutes of active exercise and a 5-minute cool down. All classes will be recorded and can be emailed out if you cannot make a class! The cost is $80.00 for the entire 4-week program (averaging $10.00/class), $40.00 to join in once a week and $12.00 per drop in class. The classes will begin as beginner and progress to intermediate/advanced by the end of the month.
