Practicing good dental hygiene and receiving dental cleaning is a must to achieve excellent oral health. Visiting a dental professional at least every 6 months is crucial even if you floss everyday and brush your teeth for the full 2 minutes twice a day. These visits will allow a dentist to detect any problems with a thorough examination and seeing a dental hygienist can help you prevent gum disease and tooth decay. Call us at 705-434-0775 to book your appointment. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

How does anorexia/bulimia affect your oral health? Both disorders will have major impact on your oral health. Individuals who have anorexia lack nutrition and is usually severely underweight which puts them at high risk for osteoporosis and promotes dental issues. Osteoporosis can cause jaw your bone to weaken leading to tooth loss. Other dental issues occur when the tooth's enamel is deteriorating from the stomach acids when bulimic individuals make themselves vomit. It is imperative to treat the underlying causes. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

No one chooses to have allergies. It could be a drug allergy, food allergy, insect allergy, skin allergy, mold allergy, pet allergy, and pollen allergy. We advise you to notify your dentist of any allergies beforehand. Since dentist/hygienist will be using different tools, substances, and medication to treat you, they need to know your complete medical history. Your oral health and linked to your overall health. The dentist can eliminate the use of the allergen that causes your allergic reaction. #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

Energy drinks are no better than sodas! Aside from sugary foods and beverages, drinks that are highly acidic will cause irreversible damage to the tooth enamel. Our saliva has a pH of 7 which is considered neutral. The lower the pH level, the greater the potential for losing enamel. Energy drinks like, Red Bull - has a pH of 3.3 and Monster has a pH of 2.7. Both pH levels are extremely low. A damaged tooth enamel will make your teeth more susceptible to cavities. Think twice before drinking energy/sport drinks! #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

What should you do if your baby is teething? Teething occurs when teeth start to come out around six months of age. Symptoms that indicate this event is when you notice your baby is extra fussy, irritable, excessive drooling, and chewing on everything. As their gums ache during this process, it is important to use teething remedies to help with the pain. Consider using cold and hard things such as a cold washcloth, teething rings/toys, or pain relievers (acetaminophen or ibuprofen). Ensure the items are safe and free of chemicals. Another method is to apply pressure by massaging the gums. Cuddles help as well! #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #teething

What are cavities? What should you do when you spot one? A cavity is a hole in our tooth caused by plaque. Plaque is a clear sticky substance that contains bacteria and accumulates on the surfaces of our teeth. When sugars and starches are not cleaned off our teeth, the tooth enamel is being eaten away. Plaque will either harden under or above your gum line into tartar. A build up of hardened plaque is known as tartar or dental calculus. Tartar is not easy to remove with a to...othbrush and will require a dental visit. When you see a tiny opening or feel pain when you bite down, it is most likely a cavity and must be treated by a dentist. If a cavity is left untreated, the hole will deepen reaching the inner layers of the tooth causing sensitivity. Depending on the severity of the cavity, treatments will be different for everyone. Treatment options include fluoride treatments, fillings, crowns, root canals, and tooth extractions. Here are a few tips to prevent cavities! Brush with fluoride toothpaste after eating/drinking at least twice a day Floss daily Regular dental checkups (minimum twice a year) Drink plenty of water Avoid frequent snacking and sipping #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

Why you should incorporate flossing into your daily routine! Every dental visit, the hygienist will remind you to floss everyday. Flossing is beneficial because it can remove food or plaque from in between your teeth, gums, and areas that a toothbrush cannot reach. With food stuck in between the teeth, it can cause gingivitis and cavities. Don't forget to floss! #Dentistry #dentalworld #dentist #nocavities #oralhealth #healthyteeth #dentallife #toothbrush #alliston #ontario #floss

If your home care routine of brushing and flossing has slipped and you have skipped your regular dental cleanings, bacterial plaque and tartar can build up on your teeth. The plaque and tartar, if left untreated, may eventually cause irreparable damage to your jawbone and support structures, and could lead to tooth loss and gum diseases. #DrParekh&Associates #Alliston #dentalpractice #clinic #dentalhealth #oralcare #oralhygiene #dentalcare #oral #teeth #dentalproblems #treatments #checkups #dentists #patients #brushingteeth #flossing #gumdiseases #dentalappointments #booknow #acceptingnewpatients

Hungry for a midnight snack? Brushing may clear your teeth of bacteria and food particles, but if you eat a snack afterward, you'll need to brush again before bed. Having a snack before sleep (without brushing) can allow food particles and sugar to remain on your teeth for too long, causing tooth decay and gum problems. You can maintain your dental hygiene by choosing the best products, improving your techniques and ensuring you're doing everything in your power to keep your teeth and gums healthy. #DrParekh&Associates #Alliston #dentalpractice #clinic #dentalhealth #oralcare #oralhygiene #dentalcare #oral #teeth #dentalproblems #treatments #checkups #dentists #patients #midnightsnacking #snacks #hungry #dentalcavities #cavity #dentalappointments #booknow #acceptingnewpatients

A cavity is formed when the acidity in your mouth is high for a crucial amount of time. If you have all the candy at once, your mouth has time to recover from the acid build up. If you continue to eat the candy throughout the day, your mouth has little time to recover and increases your chances of getting a cavity! Be sure to keep an eye on your sugar intake and how it’s consumed. Of course, remember to keep up with good oral hygiene as well! #DrParekh&Associates #Alliston #dentalpractice #clinic #dentalhealth #oralcare #oralhygiene #dentalcare #oral #teeth #dentalproblems #treatments #checkups #dentists #patients #brushingteeth #flossing #dentalcavities #cavity #dentalappointments #booknow #acceptingnewpatients

Did You Know - The Type of Wire Used for Braces was Invented by NASA - Whattttt!!! Dr. Angle’s developments may have been innovative, but gold braces were also expensive. The field of orthodontics took a giant leap when NASA developed a metal alloy called nickel titanium in 1959. Though they created this heat-resistant metal for space-bound shuttles, it was also perfect for making thin, highly flexible wires that could maintain their shape after being bent and attached to a wearer’s teeth. #DrParekh&Associates #Alliston #dentalpractice #clinic #dentalhealth #oralcare #oralhygiene #dentalcare #oral #teeth #dentalproblems #treatments #checkups #dentists #patients #braces #metalused #NASA #dentalappointments #booknow #acceptingnewpatients
