I love this. Roxana was in her first trimester and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes. I built her a lifestyle plan that included a morning & evening routine, a sleep schedule, and a nutrition strategy that would keep her insulin and cortisol levels normal. As a carb-addict, consistency would be a problem, so we needed to address her addiction to dopamine first. Once that was under control, her mind and body steadily went back to their natural settings. Need help find...ing your path? An evolutionary, functional approach to health works. #NUTR512. It’s a challenge this semester since everything is virtual. But I got permission from @mcgillmaccampus that with proper safety measures, we can go on a 3-hr hike through the Morgan Arboretum! We’ll learn all about edible, medicinal, and poisonous plants. This will be a welcome break from our usual ZOOM. Looking forward to tomorrow! #wildplants #nature #wild #wilderness #hiking #academics #ethnobotany #nutrition #medicinalplants #primal #liveofftheland

’ : We know that probiotics in yogurt support gut health and are beneficial for our digestion and immune system. But as a dairy product, it also contains saturated fats -- a type of fat that we are told causes heart disease. So the choice is simple: buy fat-free yogurt to maximize the probiotics and minimize the saturated fats. ’ : Usually, anything fat free has to have something added to it to replace the lost flavour. As usual, it’ll be s...ugar, corn syrup or artificial sweeteners. Flavoured yogurts almost always have added sugar, sometimes as much as 15 grams per small 6-ounce serving. Most Yoplait products, for example, have high-fructose corn syrup and artificial flavors in their products. Most consumers are aware that the sweet flavors and fruity jams take away from the benefits of yogurt. But what about plain yogurt? Is fat-free better than full fat? To make fat free plain yogurt, skim milk is used, so there are no added sweeteners. It’s significantly lower in calories, but also lacks in flavor and creaminess. Neither is bad for you or causes you to put on weight, so it depends on what you prefer. Full-fat plain yogurt is more satiating. If you add your own fresh fruit, maple syrup or honey, then fat-free yogurt might be the way to go. It’s totally up to you. But stick to the plain yogurts (Greek, organic or traditional) that have only two or three ingredients: milk, bacterial cultures and/or milk protein concentrates. See more

We also discuss Dr Owen's new meditation practice and how it's one of the most difficult and most rewarding things he's ever done. The FL TRIBE podcast is dedicated to connecting with the movers, breathers, teachers and healers of the world and telling their stories.
