A heads up to those of you who are pregnant or have friends or family who are - new research questions the safety of Tylenol. It was previously recommended to be safe for pain and fever during pregnancy, but in fact it may be harmful for male babies. Even more reason to consider natural alternatives like chiropractic, acupuncture and massage (besides the fact they're likely to do a better job helping those aches & pains!) http://time.com/3892112/pregnancy-tylenol-babies/

I see a lot of very active children in my practice with sports related injuries. This article does a good job at highlighting what some of the research suggests we do to help avoid overuse injuries - here are my main takeaways: 1. Play a variety of sports as they provide different challenges and skill sets. Also have 2-3 months in which they take a break away from their major sport in a year. 2. The number of hours they spend playing in sport per week, should be less than t...heir age (a tough one for most young athletes!) 3. Take one to two days off per week for both physical and psychological recovery (yes kids get very stressed about sports) http://m.wsj.com//guidelines-for-young-athletes-to-reduce-

I have a version of this conversation with patients on almost a daily basis. Recovery is not negotiable. Stress (exercise, life, etc) is cumulative. We need to balance it with proper recovery (rest, nutrition, etc) http://jamesclear.com/cumulative-stress
