What do I love about being a Naturopathic Doctor? . . I feel so privileged to have the knowledge that I learned in naturopathic school. It was truly a life changing experience that allowed me to look at health and others through another lens. .... . I love hearing a patient's entire health history, learning what barriers they have to their health, whether it be physical or mental. Hearing their COMPLETE history allows me to dig deeper into why something is happening rather than just treating the symptom. . . After finding the ROOT cause it allows me to help the patient understand why it happened, teach them about their body and mind, and empower them to make health decisions for themselves going forward. . . We then develop an individualized health plan for each patient based on their lifestyle and health condition. Diet changes, sleep hygiene, stress management, exercise. They all seem simple but rarely considered. We start with the most gentle/least invasive treatment first and then move upwards if needed. Acupuncture, chiropractic adjustments, herbal therapy, supplements, injections and IV therapy are considered next. If need be, patients are prescribed medication or referred out to other health care practitioners. Treatment could include many of these things! . . All of this helps up PREVENT the progression of disease or prevent disease all together. We aim to optimize health and performance, reduce the disease process, and give our patients health options. How lucky am I to get to do this every day? See more

Why did I become a Naturopathic Doctor? . . This wasn't as clear as I wanted it to be! .... . During my bachelor's of Kinesiology I had in mind what every Kin student wanted, physio! After volunteering at a few places I realized I wanted to be involved in a position that was about proactive health, not reactive health. Dietician? No..I didn't like the cookie cutter approach to each person. Wholistic nutritionist? No..I didn't like that you did not need a degree to undergo the training. . . At the suggestion of my grandma, I visited a N.D. for digestive issues that had been ongoing for some time. I was upset at the dismissal of my issues with my family doctor and how when things didn't come up on labs, there wasn't anything wrong with me. Even though I was super bloated, gassy, and never had a good poop. . . I spent an hour with the doctor, and was asked several questions, they knew my entire health history, not just one symptom that was bothering me. A full plan was given to me that was entirely based around diet changes. I was flabbergasted by the time and care that was spent with me. I thought "that is the way health care is supposed to be." . . So, I entertained the idea of becoming a N.D. 4 more years! Ah! My undergrad was long and painful and I didn't know if I could do 4 more years. However, I thought that I would be stupid to not just apply. It was everything I wanted, medical and science based, with nature and herbal teachings. Full body and full mind. Could I be so lucky to do this as a job? . . I consider it a privilege to see patients and hear their entire health history, the stories they share and the pain they feel. I am constantly learning from my patients and from nature around me. I hope to be able to help you on your health journey! See more

During this time we may think it's a good idea to self treat or utilize natural therapies to try to improve our circumstances. . . However, "natural" or "herbal" does not mean safe. Many vitamins you can overdose on, in different ways, some interact with medications, some interact with other nutrients. Herbal extracts can be toxic, interact with medications, or even cause death. .... . This is not meant to scare you even more, this is to educate and inform that this does not necessarily mean safe. Consult a professional health care provider such as a naturopathic doctor for clear, and safe medical advice when it comes to natural health products. See more
