Dr. Richard Collis 02.12.2020

Hello everyone, hope all of you are doing well. As most of you know by now, I am retired from practice. Over the years many of you had asked me when I was going to publish my book on reducing and preventing back and neck pain. Well, we finally had it published! For those of you interested, Amazon Books is my publisher, and it is currently being sold as an E-book that can be sent to any device. It's titled is, 150 WAYS to REDUCE and PREVENT BACK and NECK PAIN. Just go to the ...Amazon website, type in the title or my name, Dr. Richard Collis, and you will be immediately directed to it. The book has information on reducing and preventing pain during activities like desk sitting, laptops, gardening, snow shovelling, sleeping, mattresses and pillows, pregnancy, driving, and lots, lots more. Also included are sections on home care products, effective pain-reducing exercises, the reasons why so many people today have back and neck pain, and anatomical explanations on what is causing your pains. Hope you like the book. If you do, feel free to write a review on the Amazon website. Stay safe, Dr. Collis See more

Today is my birthday, and my daughter and son-in-law gave me the best birthday gift ever...a beautiful baby grandson born early this morning! His name is Dylan, and he weighed in at 7lbs, 7 ounces.

I hope everyone is doing well. As many of you are working from home, I thought this would be a good opportunity to discuss the proper ways to minimize stress to your spine while working at your desks. Workstation Ergonomics 101:... Always sit fully back in your chair so that you can feel the small of your back touching the back of your chair. While keyboarding, your elbows should be at 90 degree angles, tucked close to your body, and your chair positioned close to your desk to avoid reaching for your keyboard and mouse. Your monitor height should be such that your eyes fall to the top one-third of the monitor. Your knees should be raised to at least at the same level as your hips. This is very important for the lower back. If you work on a laptop, it should be raised to the proper eye level, using books or a laptop stand. A keyboard should be attached to the laptop. Take frequent breaks. Try getting up for at least five minutes every half hour. I don’t yet know when our office is going to reopen, but I will let you know as soon as we have a date. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me at any time. Stay Safe, Dr. Richard Collis
