After careful consideration I have decided to close down my practice effective immediately for the safety and wellbeing of our patients and staff. At this time, we do not know how long we will be closed. It will all be dependant on what recommendations are made at both a Provincial and National level over the next few weeks. However, I am currently aiming for an April 2nd return. I do apologize for any inconveniences as a result of this decision. It was a difficult decisi...on to make because I know many people rely on our care at Clayton Heights Chiropractic. Nonetheless, when I thought about the potential risks of staff and clients it became an easy decision but not one the was taken lightly. In addition, I would like to recommend that patients refer to Fraser Health for more information on COVID-19 and what you can do to protect yourself and your family. I also want to encourage people that have any questions regarding their care to message me or e-mail me directly at [email protected]. If anyone is in need of emergent chiropractic care please contact our office. Dr. Hogan will be providing limited emergency based care. Be safe and I will see you all soon! Dr. Blake

Recently in our office we have seen an uptick in gym or workout related injuries. Usually these patients are new patients or people that haven't been in for a while. I know everyone is eager and ambitious to work on their beach bodies but we need to be smart about how we train. I figured I'd take a few minutes to give everyone a few simple tips to help keep fit and their spines healthy. 1. Start simple and light. Too much too soon is the number one cause for issues. 2. Have... someone watch your form. How we think we move as opposed to how we actually move is usually vastly different. The professional eyes of a trainer are always best but if that isn't an option a workout partner also works too. 3. Get your spine in line before you lift. The body is a musculoskeletal system, so training muscles on a spine that is dysfunction/ out of alignment will always eventually end up in an injury. It might not be right away, but eventually it will catch up with your body and issues will arise. Therefore, as you start to train new muscle patterns, make sure you get adjusted first! It's easier to build a house from an even platform as opposed to a crooked one, so to speak. 4. If issues do arise, don't ignore them. The longer they are left the harder they are to fix. Hope everyone enjoys their summer and continue to live a healthy life.

It has been a while since I made a post so I hope everyone is having a great summer. The sunshine has been a major distraction, not to mention vacation and three kiddos. I've talked about it before but I just wanted to remind everyone about proper summer footwear. Before I went on vacation I went to BioPed Footcare in Clayton where Ish and Ken helped me pick out a supportive flip flop by a brand called Sole. The reason I did this is because in general Flip flops are a top ...culprit for plantar fasciitis and foot pain. Flip flops typically have flat, skinny soles that absorb very little impactleaving your arch to stand alone in supporting your weight and the strain of physical activity. Flip flops also have zero support for your heel, meaning it’s possible for your foot to suddenly shift if you encounter an unexpected obstacle, straining your plantar fascia or other muscles and ligaments in your foot. This can not only result in foot pain, but also back and even neck pain. One of the best treatments for foot pain and plantar fasciitis is, of course, a proper supportive shoe, but once the pain is there the best therapy available is Shockwave therapy. Not only does shockwave accelerate the healing of the damaged tissue, it also aids in prevention from reoccurring foot pain. It is best to receive treatment sooner than later because as I mentioned earlier the foot issue can progress into low back and neck pain. For more information about a life without foot pain and Shockwave Therapy, call Clayton Heights Chiropractic and Massage Therapy today to schedule an appointment.

Lateral Epicondylitis is the medical term for tennis elbow. In our office, we hear on a fairly consistent basis that patients are suffering from elbow pain. The term lateral epicondylitis refers to the outside part of the elbow. Although it is commonly called tennis elbow, ironically only 5% of lateral elbow injuries are from tennis. In fact, most people that suffer from tennis elbow work desk jobs or physical jobs that require an increased amount of gripping. While tenn...is elbow will heal on its own, this will require rest which is nearly always impossible to do. Chiropractic, massage, physiotherapy and stretches are effective for eliminating the pain and resolving the issue. However, one of the newer more effective ways to heal tennis elbow is shockwave therapy. It accelerates the healing, reduces the recovery time and prevents the injury from happening again.
