As we continue to navigate our day to day lives in a global pandemic, our team of dental healthcare professionals wanted to take the time to explain the best practices for your oral health if you’re feeling under the weather. ’ ! : one of the most important things to remember when you’re unwell. Some cold and flu symptoms as well as the medications used for them can cause a dry mou...th. Having a dry mouth can increase your risk for cavities so we encourage you to drink water. : Cough drops can be very helpful in soothing your throat, but they can also cause havoc with your oral health! Sucking on cough drops when you’re sick can support by increasing saliva production. If you can, try to purchase sugar-free cough drops to reduce your risk of developing tooth decay. : If one of your symptoms is vomiting, we recommend rinsing your mouth out with water mixed with 1 tsp. of baking soda. You shouldn’t brush your teeth after vomiting as stomach acids can cause problems with your teeth. The baking soda and water mix will help to wash away/neutralize any acid so you can brush your teeth in a few hours. : When you’re sick, try to remember to stick with your regular health routine of brushing your teeth at least twice a day for 2 minutes and clean in between your teeth. Make sure to use a fluoride toothpaste to help prevent cavities from developing. The Government of Canada states that the flu virus can live on some surfaces for as long as 48 hours. , ’ ! #dental #dentalhygienist #dentist #dentalhealth #oralhealth #fluseason #stayhealthy #oralhygiene #oralhealthcare #dentalprofessional

As your dental care team we play an important role to help and treat any problems associated with this disease. Signs that you need to seek an appointment with your oral healthcare provider are bleeding gums, dry mouth or a loss of taste. As always we encourage you to have a routine of brushing twice a day, floss, use a fluoride toothpaste and limit your sugar consumption and continue with regular appointments with your dental hygienist and dentist they can prompt you to see your health care provider to be tested for diabetes if they have a concern. ! #worlddiabetesday #diabetesawareness #diabetesandyourmouth #dentist #dental #dentalhealth #oralhealth #liveyourbestlife #healthylifestyle #youroverallhealth #youroralhealth #muskoka #muskokadentist See more
