My webinar with my sister, Dr. Shahana Alibhai, MD Stress and Anxiety Expert and my brother in law, Dr. Khalid Alibhai Chiropractor on how to THRIVE during uncertain times. Here’s your chance to learn from a naturopath, medical doctor & chiropractor all in one convenient webinar! A summary of my part is found below but listen to the webinar to learn invaluable info from Drs Khalid & Shahana Alibhai!... Dr. Shabita Teja N.D - Eat Well Fight or flight or rest and digest. We can either be in one or the other, not both. In flight or fight blood flow is directed to your limbs, nothing is directed to your core which means there is no rest and digest. Leaky gut syndrome: When our body is exposed to food sensitivities, viruses, toxins, etc. the cells in our digestive system become less tightly knit, they become leakier and inflamed. The food particles seep through the cell lining into our blood stream which matters because our immune system reacts to what is in our bloodstream, which results in things such as autoimmunity, inflammation, malabsorption etc. By healing the gut we form a barrier to the outside assaults! Tips for eliminating well: Diaphragmatic breathing to activate your vagus nerve to get us into rest and digest, Drink water -We don’t absorb more than 2 cups at a time, separate it away from meals, and drink room temperature water Daily bowel movements - 1-3 times a day is the goal, or after each meal. Once ever 3-4 days signals a problem. Use the Bristol Myers stool chart as a reference. Healing the gut: Remove irritants and food sensitivities, replace insufficient digestion (helping your digestive enzymes function optimally), reinoculate good flora (probiotic supplements or fermented foods), repair gut lining (L-glutamine, curcumin, omega-3s supplements) and relax to get into rest and digest. https://www.tejawellness.ca//thrive-move-well-eat-well-amp

Studies show that journaling is a powerful tool to help get worries under control and out of your head. Let's do this together: (head over to Menopause Chicks PRIVATE COMMUNITY to comment) Whenever you get a worry (a negative thought that won't go away), write it down (physically--with a pen.) Once it is written, evaluate it for its accuracy. Is it true, or realistic? If not, smile and let it stay on the paper. If the worry has merit, write down three or four things you can do about the worry, and equally important, write down what you canNOT do about the worry. P.S. When is the best time to invest in your health? 20 years ago. When is the second best time? Today! Our world is navigating uncharted territory right now and I ...am currently leaning away from sharing any direct COVID-19 information (let’s all refer to our trusted health professionals for that!) However, I am fully leaning toward leveraging this opportunity to do what I have the privilege of doing every day: inviting women to put their own names at the top of their to-do list, and to embrace self-care. This particular call-to-action might seem counter-intuitive in the middle of a health crisis, but I’m going to argue it is the BEST time to set ourselves up for optimal health: immediately and long-term. What do I mean by self-care? The answer is going to be quite personal and individual. However, I want everyone to hear me when I say this: do not underestimate the power of stress. Stress management isn’t woo-woo and it isn’t all about bubble baths and (at-home) pedicures--although those activities can certainly prove beneficial. This is about understanding that stress is behind most, if not all, doctor visits, hormone imbalances, chronic health conditions and death. Prolonged exposure to chronic stress is a health threat, especially to women, who have the highest rates of heart disease and stroke in our country. Dear Valued Clients and Patients of SWC, We, as a collective, have made the decision to close our doors for the remainder of the week as of today. It is NOT wit...h a heavy heart we are making this decision but a positive and empowering one. When we made our decision to stay open earlier on, we were following the guidelines of our colleges and listening to the Public Health recommendations. But as we are all very much aware, this event changes every hour. We wanted to work with you to support your emotional and health needs but for the short interm, we need to practice the social distancing that has been greatly recommended to help flatten the curve. Dr. Teja ND and Dr. Stark will be available via telecommunication to help your continual care so please contact them directly to move forward with. They also are reminding you that you can order your ongoing products and new health support products online through Pure Pharmacy. For those of you who have appointments with us next week, and would like to keep it as is, we will go day by day and will let you know when we will be able to move forward with them. We also suggest not to cancel too far in advance, except for those who have been told to work from home, so we are able to keep a sort of stability and routine within this uncertain time.
