It's that time of year again! Follow these 9 steps to help avoid back, shoulder and neck pain when your children head back to school! 1. Encourage light packing 2. Load it evenly - heaviest items on the bottom and centred! 3. Make sure its the right weight - it should not be more than 10-15% of your child's body weight... 4. Lift with your legs - practice this with your children 5. Tighten the straps! Allowing the bag to rest on the contour of the back, not over buttocks 6. Ask your child how you feel 7. Monitor their comfort 8. Wear both arm straps - if not, one shoulder wearing can promote uneven posture, which can lead to other issues down the road 9. Reduce backpack wearing time Keeping these tips in mind are sure to make your packing easier and your bags a little lighter. Good habits start young! For informed guidance on the prevention and management of pain or discomfort in the back, neck, or shoulders, feel free to Call Return to Function (705- 868-1531) or email [email protected]
