If you eat sugar often without good oral hygiene, damage to your #teeth and #gums may happen. Poor oral hygiene can create teeth that are overly sensitive to sugar and sensations like, heat or cold.

A new study, published in Cancer Prevention Research, indicates that periodontal disease is associated with an increased risk of colorectal cancer. Previous studies have pointed to associations between periodontal disease and other types of cancer. Compared with people with no history of periodontal disease, those who had periodontal disease had a 17% increased relative risk of having a serrated polyp and an 11% increased risk of a conventional adenoma. Interestingly, t...he researchers found that the loss of four or more teeth was associated with a 20% increased risk for having a serrated polyp. Also, among participants with periodontal disease, the researchers discovered that the more teeth lost, the higher the risk of advanced conventional adenomas. Maintain good brushing and flossing habits on a daily, so plaque doesn’t build up on your teeth and harden and avoid getting periodontal disease by visiting Dr Sophie and her Team at Maple Dental Centre. 905 8324886 See more

Speaking to The Telegraph, Martin Addy, a dentistry professor at the University of Bristol, claimed that the antimicrobial action of toothpaste in the mouth may reduce the viral load of COVID-19 in saliva, even suggesting that it may prevent infection by viruses entering the mouth. So please keep up your immune system and oral health. Don’t miss out on your dental hygiene appointment. 905 832 4886

The most recent TikTok challenge is not recommended. Please do NOT file your teeth down. The enamel does NOT grow back and leads to irreversible damage of those pearly whites. Let's keep the nail files for the nails and keep smiling with your teeth.

Good oral hygiene has been recognized as a means to prevent airway infections in patients, especially in those over the age of 70. Those with periodontal disease are at a 25 percent raised risk of heart disease, thrice the risk of getting diabetes, and 20 percent raised risk of getting high blood pressure, the researchers wrote. These are all risk factors of severe COVID-19. Don’t delay your professional hygiene cleaning. Call us and schedule your appointment. Decrease all your risk factors to keep your immunity strong. 905 832 4886

Daily Oral Care With many dental offices closed, experts say it’s more important than ever to brush properly and floss regularly. * Most dentist offices are closed for routine procedures during the COVID-19 shutdown. * Dr.Sophie is urging people to brush twice a day and floss once a day to take care of their teeth. ... * Keeping your toothbrush clean is also important for good dental health. Tips: 1. maintain a daily routine of brushing teeth and flossing to prevent tooth decay. This is Plaque Control 2. If you haven’t already, make the switch to a power toothbrush and brush your teeth for 2 minutes 3. This has shown to offer the highest levels of oral hygiene, which is crucial at a time when you aren’t seeing your dentist or hygienist for cleanings and checkups. 4. Rinsing with a non-alcohol-based mouthwash twice a day also can help reduce plaque buildup. Studies also found Peroxide based rinses help kill the Corona Virus. 5. Dentists also recommend the use of fluoride-based toothpaste. Diet matters....What you eat is also important. 1. Avoid starchy foods or drinks that lead to acid in our mouths, which dissolve tooth surfaces. 2. Good hydration also is important for oral health. 3. Smoking and drinking can be detrimental to your oral health. Smoking inhibits the blood supply to your gums and increases your risk for gum infections. High exposure to alcohol can dry out the cells in your cheeks and gums. 4. Chewing on ice, pen caps, or fingernails as a means of stress management can cause the teeth to chip or break. 5. Stay away from hard foods that can crack a tooth or damage fillings as well as popcorn, peanut brittle, and sticky candy. Keep your toothbrush clean Keep brushes and other toiletries away from commodes. Try to flush with the lid closed. Keep your floss, brushes, and tongue cleaners covered. Soaking them in a mixture of mouthwash and hydrogen peroxide also keeps them safe. A healthy mouth enhances the body’s immune system to fight off invaders....like Covid.

With dental offices slowly reopening across the country, patients will likely return to a slightly different look than the one they left behind when stay-at-home orders went into place. As new guidelines go into effect, Maple Dental Centre is implementing additional safety measures to align with the new RCDSO requirements and add to our already implemented Universal Precautions. As our patients visit Maple Dental Centre, Dr Sophie and Team might: Be wearing additional p...ersonal protection equipment Request that you wear a mask to your appointment Request you wash or sanitize your hands Ask you to wait in vestibule before being escorted in Encourage you to refrain from lingering and interacting for extended period of time for the time being As the world begins to return to living we are all in this together, and we will continue working to keep our team and our patients safe and ensure the trust you have and have had in us continues....

Providing our patients, family and friends with the smile you’ve always dreamed of is my top priority for 29 years. With technology today, I can connect and follow my patients’ Invisalign progress through the New Virtual Appointments and Invisalign Virtual Care. Virtual services have become a part of everyone’s lives these days, myself included. My team and I have spent endless hours doing online courses and podcasts to keep up with CDC, OSHA, IPAC, Ministry of Health, and ...RCDSO guidelines and recommendations. When our supply of PPE becomes readily available and we get the nod from our authorities, we can reassure our patients the same quality of care in a more efficient, personal and safe atmosphere. And the best result from this technology.....you can chat with your patients and find out how they are spending their downtime....many with colour!!!! #drsophie#mapledentalcentre#invisalign#@invisalignvirtualcare@itero5D

As I don’t know where I stand on Covid-19, if it is the Pandemic or an overreaction, what I do know is I have taken this time to become healthy and be prepared in case something does happen. Part of this is: 1. Good Sleep 2. Good Hydration ... 3. Great Nutrition 4. Fresh air and Sunshine These are basic needs. As I look at these, the one area I can and have been helping my patients over the last 29 years is how they are breathing and sleeping. For this reason, I am reaching out because I want you to be sleeping and breathing well and having energy to spend time with family. I want to use this downtime and address it because once we get back to our busy lives, time will be limited again. Take the questionnaires and message me or DM if you have any questions. I want to thank my Minnesotan dental friends, Hussein and Lee... Well, I'm in the Hospital This has not been a good evening. After spending the last two weeks quarantined inside the house, I decided to go horseback riding, something I haven't done in many months. It turned out to be a horrible big mistake! I got on the horse and started out slowly, but then we went a little faster; before I knew it, we were going as fast as the horse could go. I couldn't take the pace and f...ell off and caught my foot in the saddle stirrup, the horse was then dragging me. The horse just would not stop.Thankfully the manager at Walmart came out and unplugged the machine. He actually had the nerve to take the rest of my coins so I wouldn't try to ride the Elephant...How many of you actually read what I wrote? If you did, copy and paste for someone else to get a laugh! We certainly need a laugh....... Stay safe and keep smiling!Yall thought huh!!! Negative not I See more

The hope here is to thank our family of patients for their trust and support during our 25 years of serving Maple’s oral health......as well as creating our own infection of spreading this compassion to our friends, family, neighbours and those in need. During these truly unexplained times, we miss family and friend gatherings. The sharing of laughter and stories will not be. Do not let social distancing stop you from reaching out and sharing. During this special times, sacrifices are made for the better of all. If He did it, so can we. Technology can connect us, albeit, not the same as the human touch. Skype, FaceTime,Zoom are ways to share our important holiday moments. ... Reach out. Connect. Do not let this Covid-19 change the valued and important parts of our existence. #drsophie#mapledentalcentre

Dr. Sophie Polymeneas 13.02.2020

I found this analogy very interesting: You are holding a cup of coffee when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your co...ffee everywhere. Why did you spill the coffee? "Well because someone bumped into me, of course!" Wrong answer. You spilled the coffee because there was coffee in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup, is what will spill out. Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which Covid has), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it, until you get rattled. So we have to ask ourselves... "what's in my cup?" When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace and humility? OR anger, bitterness, harsh words and reactions? You choose! Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation for ourselves; and kindness, gentleness and love for others. Wishing you all MORE POSITIVITY IN YOUR CUP.... HAVE AN AWESOME WEEKEND #drsophie#mapledentalcentre#awesomemapleteam
