This is one of the most common conversations that I have in my practice. Anxiety is common in women. Nutrient deficiencies are not necessarily the cause of the anxiety, but they certainly can worsen symptoms. Vitamin D... -I screen Vitamin D levels in all patients, especially those that have depression or anxiety. - Supplementing with Vitamin D has been shown to improve mood, while reducing inflammatory markers in women with anxiety and Vitamin D deficiency. -A study of 30 individuals in 2019 with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD) found that supplementation with Vitamin D reduced the severity of their GAD symptoms, as well as a significant reduction in inflammatory levels. Magnesium -Lower magnesium levels are associated with anxiety. -Fun fact is when we reduce magnesium levels in rodents, they exhibit symptoms of depression. -Existing evidence suggests supplementing with magnesium leads to an improvement in anxiety. Not all forms of magnesium are equivalent. When looking for a magnesium supplement be sure to choose magnesium bisglycinate if you are looking to improve absorption from the bowels and have a systemic effect. Ready? PMS is my jam. I find the whole thing really freaking fascinating and have a mission of helping women understand themselves and how to build a life that supports their health. You won’t feel like lightspeedmotherfucker follicular phase you all the time (that’s the first half of your cycle btw). The amount of candle at both ends burning you do affects your luteal phase (the second half).... Step 1 for feeling better is to track your cycle and how you feel. It’s the ticket to unlocking your health as a woman Repost @withregram @drjordannd . #pms #pmsproblems #pmsing #womensupportingwomen #womenshealth #naturopathicmedicine #naturopathicdoctor

It is not normal to have brutal PMS every month. It's not all in your head either. There is actually a lot you can do to tackle your PMS.... Here are just a *few* tips. Note: there are many and I suggest talking to your Naturopathic or Medical Doctor. Nutrition Maintaining adequate hydration, ramping up green veggies, avoiding alcohol and reducing inflammatory foods (e.g., sugar, processed foods). Actually increasing complex carbs has been shown to improve PMS symptoms. Supplements Calcium and Vitamin D have shown benefit in treating the mood symptoms of PMS. Movement Women who exercise regularly throughout the month tend to have milder PMS symptoms. Reduce Stress Consider integrating a mindfulness practice into your regular routine. E.g., gratitude, journalling or meditation. Acupuncture Acupuncture has been shown to be effective for supporting both the physical and psychological symptoms of PMS. Hormones can directly affect our anxiety levels. PMS Anxiety, irritability, panic attacks and being more emotional/sensitive are all common mood changes that can happen PRE-period. When I have a consult with a woman and discuss their mood, I inquire about if there is any association with their menstrual cycle. I often see the *lightbulb moment* where they realize that yes, in fact their mood is often worse or they are more anxious in the days leading up to their period.... Hypothyroidism . Individuals with autoimmune thyroid disease have an increased chance of developing symptoms or receiving a diagnosis of depression or anxiety. PCOS People with PCOS are about 3 times more likely to experience depression and anxiety than people without PCOS. Mental health symptoms should be screened for in anyone presenting with symptoms aligned with PCOS. Peri-menopause/Menopause In women who do not have a history of depression or anxiety, the peri-menopause and post-menopausal stages are associated with an increased risk of anxiety and depression symptoms. Social connection is the missing key I see in many of my interactions with patients, this has been *exacerbated* by the pandemic. I am here to help you reconnect with community. You will learn: How to optimize your energy.... How to understand your thyroid labs. More about your symptoms and what you can do about them. About gut health and how to support it. What thyroid nutrients and herbals are absolutely worth it (based on the evidence), and which ones you can leave out. and much more... You will gain: A community of like-minded women experiencing similar symptoms to you. A thyroid support workbook. Weekly accountability to actually move the needle on aspects of your health you have been wanting to improve. The deadline to sign up is March 3rd and I am taking a maximum of 8 women!
