THE BODY Our bodies are incredible, they work so hard to make sure we can do all the things we dream about doing This book is a great read to learn more about how the body works. Here are a few facts that I enjoyed:... Hormone, comes from a Greek word meaning - ‘to set in motion’ In the teen years, the body produces more dopamine (pleasure) than it ever will again. The sensations you feel as a teen are more intense than at any other time in your life 70% of the diseases that kill us could easily be preventable by lifestyle changes Definitely a recommended read for all of you that want to marvel in the magic that is the human body Whats your favourite read?!

L-THEANINE & CHILL This past week has been extra STRESSFUL. My doggo (Walter) has been sick and navigating that while all the craziness of the past year has really had me feeling overwhelmed and quite on edge Needless to say in times where I am feeling out of sorts and overwhelmed I find that L-Theanine can be of great support. I have been using this for years to get me through higher stress moments... L-Theanine is actually made from tea leaves (how cool). Curious as to how it works? Helps to increase calming brain neurotransmitters (eg. GABA, serotonin, dopamine) Lowers some excitatory brain chemicals that make us feel stressed/overwhelmed Enhances alpha brain waves AKA increases brain waves that make us feel focused, calm and relaxed While L-Theanine works to help me on days where I am feeling overwhelmed, it is important to note that this is not the right fit for everyone. Working with a health practitioner to navigate the appropriate health products for you is so important to addressing your specific health needs

Monday Morning Skin Care Tip Consider how HOT your water is when showering and never put your face directly under the water. If the water is too hot it can cause dehydration, irritation, changes in skin pH, and skin flora changes - all things that can damage our skin barrier. And we know a damaged skin barrier can lead to more breakouts... a big no thank you

It’s so easy to be overwhelmed by all the different products on the market, finding what works best for our skin is going to look different for each of us. That being said there should be some staples that you are integrating into your skincare routine regularly. Im talking cleansers, exfoliates (perhaps acids), active ingredient serums, moisturizers, etc. Understanding the importance of each step in your routine is KEY to supporting healthy clear skin It is also important to note that while having a strong skincare routine is essential, so is understanding the root as to why you are breaking out. Assessing hormones, dietary choices, gut health, blood sugar imbalances & stress are all important to clearing your skin once and for all

LOVE THE SKIN YOU’RE IN Isn’t this the everyday goal? It should be. Regardless of our breakouts, scars, stretch marks, weight and all the flaws that we seem to focus in on day to day.... I struggle with this daily too, our worthiness connected to our outward appearance. But how about each day we try and shift our thoughts to loving our skin and the body we’re in. To finding joy in the small and big moments. Where we can just be ourselves. Feeling comfortable and confident. Because at the end of the day, regardless of where you are in your health or skin journey, I want you to love the skin you’re in

SEBUM PRODUCTION Or also known as an increase in oil production on the skin, is a huge factor that plays into the health of your skin. An increase of oil will cause your pores to clog and therefore creating an environment that is primed to break out. You’re probably asking why some of us produce more oil on our skin than others, well here are some reasons: Hormone Imbalance - Elevated testosterone levels has been shown to increase sebum production on our skin... Lifestyle - Certain foods (eg. dairy, sugar, etc) have been shown to increase sebum production Omega 3s - have been shown to be helpful for managing oil production (also key for inflammation and follicular hyperkeratinization) Understanding your hormone imbalances and lifestyle that may be contributing to acne is KEY to getting your skin under control. FOLLICULAR HYPERKERTATINIZATION In simpler terms it just means your skin is not shedding properly. There is a build up of skin and therefore pores are once again getting clogged and creating the perfect storm for break outs. Once a pore is blocked the bacteria, P. Acnes, has the opportunity to proliferate and result in acne lesions. How can you reduce follicular hyperkeratinization? Sweating - Regular sweating, an easy at-home thing to do, can help to support the clearing ...of pores and regular skin shedding Omega 3s Salicylic Acid Supporting the regular shedding of skin is important so that sebum can pass through appropriately, P. Acnes bacteria does not proliferate in a clogged pore and no inflammation is produced = CLEAR SKIN Want to read more about the reasons we break out?
