As I’ve been preparing for this thyroid webinar and 6-part series (more on than later), I’ve been sorting through my own personal medical records. I got to the year 1998. I was 13, I was tired and not sleeping well. My thyroid test results were low (over-functioning and out of balance), but I my thyroid was not further investigated until 2003, when my results drastically shifted too high (under-functioning and out of balance). I was referred to an endocrinologist, who said th...at I was ‘euthyroid,’ which means that my thyroid was functioning normally and nothing was to be done. When I was 19 years old I had acne and was no longer getting my periods. Again, my thyroid results were considered within range. Now that I am a Naturopathic Doctor, have studied medicine and can read and understand lab results, I realize that my thyroid began to be out of balance when I was 13 years old, maybe even earlier. It wasn’t until 2014- 16 years later that I was actually diagnosed with hypothyroidism. This is why I work with thyroid health - to support others in investigating and understanding their symptoms, because what they are experiencing might actually be a thyroid imbalance.
