Thanks @sarahhartcreative for the shiny new website Excited to announce I’m now setup for virtual practice after my Bedford location permanently closed this summer due to the uncertainty and upheaval from the pandemic. Making the most of these unexpected changes and leveraging technology to expand accessibility to patients throughout Nova Scotia ... Appointments are done via secure video on any computer or mobile device, with an online portal for accessing treatment plans, lab results, and appointment booking Functional medicine tests, including food sensitivity tests, urine hormone testing, SIBO testing, and other kits can be shipped to patients or picked up at local clinics. While it isn’t what I had planned at the start of the year, I’m excited for the changes and being able to offer a travel and hassle-free way to access naturopathic care. #change #2020 #functionalmedicine #virtualpractice #telemedicine #halifax #southshore #novascotia See more

Provincial state of emergency declared in Nova Scotia Seven new cases announced. New total of COVID-19 cases in NS: 28 Groups no more than 5 allowed to g...ather All provincial parks, municipal parks and beaches closed Fines will be given out to those who do not obey. Call the non emergency police line if there are groups disobeying this rule. If anyone has travelled outside of Nova Scotia they must self-isolate for 14 days. No exceptions. We all have a moral and legal obligation to adhere to the laws put in place today for the good of public health. Only one family member should be in a grocery store or pharmacy at one time to slow the spread. If youre going to run errands call neighbours who may need some extra supplies and drop them off on their doorstep. This is our small window of time to slow the spread of this very dangerous and contagious virus. Adhere to #socialdistancing and if you have travelled outside of NS you must #selfisolate.

Dr. Kim Bretz, ND does a great job discussing some recent news articles on probiotics. As numerous studies show, the health and balance of our microbiome is fundamental to our wellbeing. Not all probiotic supplements are created equal, and I often see patients spending over $50 a month health food store brands and we see a marked improved in their digestive health and related conditions when we change them over to a professional line probiotic targeted to their health concerns or work on supporting their microbiome using cultured/fermented foods (like The Cultured Coconut kefir, made locally here in NS) and prebiotic foods in their diet.

Should you happen to quickly find a tick embedded in your skin, dont assume you have no chance of contracting Lyme disease or another tick-borne infection. Th...e CDC states that a tick must be attached to a host for 24-48 hours to transmit Lyme disease. But a 2015 review stated that the minimum attachment time for transmission of an infection has never been established. That study also brought to light six documented cases of Lyme disease that had been transmitted in less than 6 hours. Plus, the other diseases that ticks carry such as babesiosis and bartonellosis may occur within minutes after a tick has latched onto your skin. #nobiteisagoodbite #tickstransmitdiseases #howlongistoolong #lymedisease #tickborneillnesses #preventioniskey https://www.healthline.com//poppyseed-size-ticks-spread-ly

"In her research involving people suffering from general anxiety disorder, Kjellgren found that after 12 sessions of 45-minute floats, people said theyd become... better at processing emotions and felt more in control of their daily life. Kjellgren speculates that the secluded environment induced feelings of relaxation, which increased self-awareness and self-insight. It may even help spark creativity. Some of my clients say their biggest innovations have happened while floating, says Orloff. The absence of distractions allows your mind to expand and create. We have a lot of creative, artistic, musical, innovative humans come through our doors to use Floatation Therapy to help with breaking through any blocks they may be experiencing. Why do you float?

Adults should follow these guidelines as well! - The American Academy of Pediatrics issued the guidelines in a statement and scientific technical report on Monday. The group joins other medical and advocacy groups that have expressed concern about the growing body of scientific evidence indicating that certain chemicals that enter foods may interfere with the bodys natural hormones in ways that may affect long-term growth and development.

Did you know that in Nova Scotia there can be some major differences between a licensed Naturopathic Doctor and a Naturopath? I can guarantee that the "naturopath" who looked at the iris of your eye and diagnosed you with a medical condition at a health & wellness fair was NOT a licensed Naturopathic Doctor (This has happened with several of my patients). Licensed Naturopathic Doctors have 8 years of post-secondary education (an undergraduate degree in science and... a 4 year Naturopathic Medicine degree/diploma from an accredited naturopathic medical school). We practice Functional Medicine, where we take a whole person/root cause approach to determine the underlying reason for your health concerns and develop treatment plans tailored to your health concerns, your goals, and your lifestyle. We are thoroughly trained in medical assessment and treatment, including differential diagnosis, pharmaceutical prescriptions, blood work & lab testing, imaging, and physical examination. While we aren't yet able to prescribe pharmaceuticals or order blood work through provincial labs in Nova Scotia, NDs in other provinces are able to provide these services. This may seem counter to a traditional Naturopathic approach, but this brings us in line with modern times, because sometimes a pharmaceutical treatment is what is needed. In addition to our medical training, we are experts in complementary & holistic medicine. We are trained in: clinical nutrition, the targeted (and safe) use of vitamins and supplements, chiropractic-style of physical medicine, botanical medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine & acupuncture, homeopathy, lifestyle counselling, preventative medicine, and Environmental Medicine. Licensed NDs must do annual Continuing Education. Some practitioners choose to learn additional modalities, including: IV therapy, injections techniques for pain and to stimulate healing (like Neural Therapy, Prolotherapy, and PRP), genomic and epigenetic medicine, integrative oncology, mind-body medicine, and bodywork. Naturopathic Medicine Week runs May 14-20. Find your licensed ND and Naturopathic Medicine Week event listings here: www.nsand.ca #natmedweek2018 #themoreyouknow #naturopathicmedicine #medicallytrained #naturallyfocused #functionalmedicine #treatthecause #thefutureofmedicine

The study shows that a protein produced by the Epstein-Barr virus, called EBNA2, binds to multiple locations along the human genome that are associated with these seven diseases. Overall, the study sheds new light on how environmental factors, such as viral or bacterial infections, poor diet, pollution or other hazardous exposures, can interact with the human genetic blueprint and have disease-influencing consequences.
