-The Judy Seddon Memorial Scholarship- Judy Seddon has been the ultimate ambassador for rugby for close to four decades. Her early playing days were with the Edmonton Coven Women’s Rugby Club, where she was part of the initial surge of women’s rugby in Alberta. Her support for women’s rugby continued throughout her life as an ambassador and firm voice in the advancement of the women’s game. As the backbone of the Alberta rugby community, Judy volunteered for the Edmonton Rugb...y Union, Rugby Alberta, and Rugby Canada. She has held numerous positions over the years such as the Edmonton Rugby Union registrar, website manager, statistician, fundraising chair, Vice President of the Ellerslie Rugby Park Board and Rugbyfest Treasurer and Chair. If there was a rugby event taking part in Alberta, it was likely Judy was there and even more likely that she was helping out with the event in some capacity. Judy is affectionally referred to as ‘Rugby Mom’ and her unwavering commitment, passion and dedication to registration, administration, and many other facets of growing the sport of rugby have gone above and beyond what would ever be expected from a volunteer position. Her efforts have been recognized by multiple organizations, including by the Edmonton Rugby Union as the Most Valuable Administrator and Hall of Fame Inductee, by Rugby Canada as the 2017 Volunteer of the Year, and by the Governor General of Canada with the award of the 2018 Sovereign’s Medal for Volunteers. Judy’s leadership was unquestionable, as well as her strong will and sense of diplomacy to get the job done. Judy’s commitment and passion for the game will be missed, but the legacy she leaves will continue to inspire the community to dedicate themselves to the game in her honour. This scholarship will be awarded annually to a young woman who is involved in rugby in Alberta as an athlete, referee, coach or volunteer, selected on the basis of community service and academics, who is or will be enrolled in a post-secondary institution. Attention to the DRUIDS FAMILIES, Ladies and gents, As most of you are aware, one of the most important people in the Edmonton rugby family, Judy, is unfortunately coming to the end of a long hard battle with cancer. ... Whilst we can't collectively get together to celebrate everything she has done for us and everything she means to us, we can show her how many people she has touched. To that end, this Saturday, beginning at 1PM, we're going to organize a convoy of cars to drive past her house and get to wave to Judy and maybe a few friendly honks, to at least show her how many of us she's had an impact on. Its not much, but hopefully its a gesture to show her, Gerald, Luke and Karla, just how much she's done for all of us. The pertinent details: - Date: Saturday, 27 Feb. - Time: 1-2PM - Location: 4707 10A Ave, Edmonton. - Dress: Rugby Jersey, or Suitable alternative *UPDATE: To help get everyone organized, we'll meet at the parking lot of Crawford Plains School ( 4210 12 Ave NW, Edmonton) and depart from there at 1PM* Come out and help say goodbye to a woman who has given so much of her spirit and time to the community and sport we all love. For more details, please get in touch with Carmen Maday ( 7809831773) or myself (9028188476)

Fancy yourself a bit of a carpenter or love DIY projects? Fields and Facilities has a project for you! As many of you know, we’ve recently cut trails in the little forest north of the clubhouse and set down x-country ski tracks. We have received overwhelming thanks and support from our members and the community in response!! We have decided to spruce up the trails a bit more and add some benches scattered throughout the trails and fields. We had great success with the table ...challenge a few years ago and we feel we can get some unique pieces if we let the people’s imaginations run free!! We would love to have all donated benches ready to go for spring If you would like to participate in this challenge please contact Jack Thompson at [email protected] #itsagreatdaytobeadruid #buildabench #strathconadruidsrfc #edmontonrugby #albertarugby #onecluboneteam
