Drumming and Health 16.12.2020

Will run a solo marathon this Sunday, in lieu of the 42.2 km June 14 Tunnel Marathons in Washington State. The plan is to start and finish at the UBC Track and Field Oval, but in between run random helter skelter throughout the UBC campus. 259 km is the total kilometerage for the month of May... running on...

DrumYogaChant Goes Virtual for the whole world! In light of the current health situation, on Sunday March 15 DrumYogaChant is moved online same time, same day in a Zoom webinar format. What? You might ask How can I do drumming, yoga and chanting on my device? Easy! Don’t show up physically on March 15 at Bridge and Enrich. Instead log in at 12:45pm at the Zoom link you’ll get when you register on EventBrite. Zoom is like Skype or Facetime and super easy to use on your compu...ter with a webcam, or your phone or tablet. Percussion is the art of expressing your own unique rhythm and this time it will be no different. You don’t need a drum and so we’ll be using Found Sounds, making music with whatever you can find in your home. Things that make awesome instruments are chopsticks, water glasses, spoons, cups, pots, pans, water jugs, your table top, tin cans, tooth brushes, and wine glasses. And you can dust off your own drum, rattle, or musical souvenirs from that trip way back when. Be ready to have huge fun! To prepare, get yourself setup in front of your device and crank up the sound. DrumYogaChant is moved online same time, same day in a Zoom webinar format. Get your ticket at EventBrite to receive the Zoom link via email.

Namaste! A Message From Lyle Povah During the COVID-19 Pandemic It’s no accident that my business is named Drumming and Health! Being strong and living a vibrant life following one’s own rhythm is my mission and I’m so grateful to all of you who are in my life. ... Out of respect for elders, children and those with health issues during this pandemic I am refraining from giving out hugs and handshakes...and I still love you. You and I don’t want to take the virus home to our loved ones. Going forward I’m inviting you to join me for the next while in greeting each other from a distance (2 meters) using the yoga Prayer Pose, often with the spoken word Namaste. And here’s the thing that the ancient Hindus knew when they started doing this pose called the Anjali Mudra. It’s a hand posture that can be used to say Hello and Goodbye and it has many positive meanings: Anjali is Sanskrit term which means, to offer or to salutate, and the term mudra means seal. So basically, it symbolizes that we are honoring and celebrating this moment together. Namaste literally means, The Divine in me sees the Divine in you. So join me in leading during our current circumstances by making meaningful eye contact with those around you and really greeting them with your presence. At all our Drumming and Health events we ask that you wash your hands when you arrive and before you depart. And you can use hand sanitizer during the event. If you feel sick before our event, out of respect for our attendees and their loved one we ask that you stay home, isolate yourself and do self-care until you’ve recovered. We are following the advice of Vancouver Coastal Health and you can see their latest advisories here. http://www.vch.ca//vancouver-coastal-health-statement-on-c Precautions and Prevention Wash your hands frequently for at least 20 seconds using soap and water. If a sink is not available, 60-90% alcohol-based hand rubs (hand sanitizer) can be used to clean hands if they are not visibly soiled. If they are visibly soiled, you can use an alcohol-based disposable hand wipe to remove the dirt and then use an alcohol-based hand rub. Do not touch your face/eyes/mouth with unwashed hands. When you sneeze or cough, cover your mouth and nose with a disposable tissue or the crease of your elbow, and then wash your hands. Stay home when you are ill. Avoid close unprotected contact with others. And at Drumming and Health we encourage you to engage in activities that strengthen your own immune system. Group drumming has been shown to do exactly that, boosting T-Cells in a scientific study by Dr. Barry Bittman.

Lyle Povah had the immense blessing to hang out as a guest with Drs. Nick Jensen ND (Vancouver) and David Wardy DC (El Paso) for their The Doctor Dads Podcast! These two high caliber men, both personally and professionally, are inspirational in the ways they support health, and bringing out the best in people.
