It's a smoky day out there with air quality advisories in some districts . I was supposed to be cycling today, but packed up the car instead as I'm feeling asthmatic being outdoors . Thankfully I have my toolkit of remedies depending what I need - both naturopathic and conventional... . Lung tincture - a combination of herbs with specificity to the lungs to decrease inflammation, improve bronchodilation, and clear mucous. Included in my custom formula are #licoriceroot #elecampane, #lobelia & #crampbark . . NAC & Quercetin supplements to provide antioxidants and manage the allergic response. NAC is also fantastic for helping clear congestion . . R76 - a combination remedy from Germany for asthma and lung support. I use this as needed and for me, it provides quick alleviation or symptoms . . my salbutamol rescue inhaler is never to far out of reach in case I do need it. Thankfully I have a number of options to support my lungs and keep my symptoms at bay . . On a daily basis, I ensure my vitamin D levels are sufficient, and support with omega 3 fatty acids and magnesium. . . And once I'm back home and have access to the clinic, I'll be doing some nebulized glutathione and desensitization to address underlying allergies and environmental sensitivities and improve my resiliency fo environmental irritants and exposure . . This is not meant as medical advice and if you are struggling with the current air quality, please seek medical attention. If you feel you need naturopathic support, I encourage you to reach out or find a local naturopathic doctor to help you get to the root of your concerns. An individualized and integrated approach is important . . . #vancouvernaturopath #lunghealth #asthma #allergies #herbalmedicine #drreckeweg #smoke #airpollutuon #naturopathicmedicine #rootcause

Windy day for a cycle, but the views are worth it! . . My bike is my happy place and I'll cycle just about any distance for a cup of coffee or an ocean view .... I hope the long weekend was a restorative one for all of you. I will be out of the office this week on some more cycling adventures. . . #naturecure #vancouvernaturopath #injectiontherapy #naturopathicmedicine #cycling See more

Honey as medicine . A recent meta-analysis and systematic review demonstrated the promise of honey as an effective strategy for respiratory illness compared to placebo and conventional therapies . The medicinal properties of honey have long been recognized, however, it is always exciting to see therapies with traditional use make their way into mainstream medical journals

Summer exploring took me to @gabriolaisland this past weekend . I am enormously grateful to have had the opportunity to spend time outside of the city and "switch off" my sympathetic nervous system for some rest and restoration . It is essential that we find ways to engage the parasympathetic nervous system especially when many lifestyle factors over activate the opposing sympathetic system (fight or flight). The parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) facilitates regulation a...nd restoration (think rest and digest). It is in this space that we heal and regulate processes such as digestion. Getting out in nature and practices such as meditation, mindfulness and deep breathing all activate the PNS allowing it to balance out the sympathetic system. Herbs and specific nutrients also support this system. . . After a few days of exploring the northern and southern gulf islands, I am back in the clinic today and tomorrow with a couple in-person visits still available on Saturday. Telehealth appointments continue to be an option for new and returning patients . Hoping you all had a lovely long weekend and found some opportunities to get outside and safely enjoy the sunshine. I am enormously grateful for access to wide open beaches and trails and all that our beautiful province has to offer
