COVID-19 and pregnancy . There has been a lot of fear on this topic lately after a recent article was published showing that pregnant persons with COVID-19 were more likely than nonpregnant persons to require hospital admissions . Like all studies, I looked past the headlines and dived deeper into the actual findings. Upon reviewing the systematic review and meta-analysis for myself, it seemed there were several factors that increased the risk of severe symptoms in pregna...ncy. . . Advanced maternal age, obesity, asthma and pre-existing conditions (diabetes) were all associated with more severe disease and the need for invasive ventilation. The takeaway point? Risk factors for COVID-19 in pregnant individuals are actually quite similar to risk factors for nonpregnant individuals. Hurry up and...WAIT. Anyone going through fertility treatments knows that there is so much waiting.
