Recent Cases Recently I have incorporated a new style of acupuncture into my practice which has made my results in treating muscle pain and strain even better. The first case is a female patient with lower back pain on the right side that did not respond to my typical protocol. After using the new method, the pain went almost completely away. I treated her only for 4 visits. The 2nd patient is a young male athlete currently in a college sports team. I was actually quite reall...y moved by his sports spirit; he was even training while he was on break back home. The calluses on his palms were a testament to his intense training. But with it came all the wear and tear and strain of muscles throughout the body. He has responded very well to my new approach; at about 8 visits all the pain and tightness has greatly improved. I'm sure he'll be back to create more records for his team after this. The 3rd case is a middle aged female patient who complained of leg pain. I did some tests to elicit a positive response to conclude this was from the lower back, as is the case in the majority of patients. However she did not respond much to the typical protocol. I ended up using the new method to release all the pertinent leg muscles and that worked wonderfully. The 4th case is not pain. It is two patients who have suffered from digestive problems for a while. Both of them can barely eat food due to intense upsurging of the stomach, causing vomiting, or burping. One patient got this problem seemingly for no apparent reason. I took her pulse and said while we can try to help you with herbs and acupuncture, you should still get it checked. The other patient got it from overdosing on pharmaceutical medications, which for the most part are damaging to the stomach. Apparently she overdosed because she was over prescribed by her MD. The first patient has improved quite well in a short period, while the 2nd patient has seen gradual but sustained improvement over a course of multiple visits. While both of them have similar symptoms, from their pulse, the pathology is different, and hence their herbs and acupuncture prescriptions are different. See more

Hashimoto Thyroidits One of the things that conventional medicine works very poorly is autoimmune conditions. Patients are usually on a trajectory of progressive worsening of their health despite whatever drugs they may be using. This is not including all the side-effects that may come with use of said drugs as well. The good thing is Chinese Medicine views such weird diseases as a process of deteriorating systemic imbalance which is at the core of autoimmune conditions. It i...Continue reading

The patient who won't give up I have this thing called the 4 treatment package that I usually encourage patients to buy. I do this because they will need at least 4 treatments if their problem is chronic and/or mild to severe, which comprises the majority of my patients. Some patients agree to it, some choose not to. Once in a blood moon someone comes in with an acute pain issue that happened less than a week ago and one treatment is likely all they need. But these are few an...d far in between. I want patients to commit to their health and that's why I give them a discount for the treatment package; I actually get the short end of the stick, but I think them getting better is my bigger goal as a Chinese Medicine Doctor. Unfortunately not all patients fully understand this even if I explain to them. On average most patients do about 8 treatments, or 2 rounds. They stop usually because they feel better(not 100%, but 70-80%) and think this is enough to get by, while they don't want to pursue other issues they concurrently might have. Others lack patience because their eyes are more on how much they're spending versus what they are getting in return for their health improvement. Considering how chronic most problems are many patients are under the understanding that getting better should be faster than getting sick, which is sadly NOT THE CASE because that's not the way the body works(I wish it was). But some individuals are really motivated and have so much trust and confidence in me that they're willing to push me to my limits. I think I have to thank them because it gives me the opportunity to show what our medicine is truly capable of. For example, recently I have a patient that just finished 16 treatments, or 4 rounds of visits. Until she just told me that I was not really aware of this fact. In the beginning she came for back pain, then after that was largely dealt with we moved on to her headaches. Then she told me how bad her knee and calf was, and even at this time the headaches were not yet settled. Her lower leg was a real challenge to treat, but after some trial and error and some introspection I finally was able to push the treatment to another milestone. From the beginning to the end essentially everything(or almost everything) in the book was thrown at it, acupuncture, Chinese Medicine, more acupuncture, more Chinese Medicine, cupping, etc etc. Right now her back is an on-and-off thing, her headaches are much better, her knee, which was the absolute obstacle in her health, has improved dramatically, and she even told me that her feet used to be cold, but now they're warm. This is not the end, she's got other issues she wants to tackle. I'm all up for it. I don't think it was my ability; I think it was her perseverance that gave her the relief she was after. I encourage patients to really invest in their health and the practitioner if they are at all serious about turning their health around. See more

Today a friend of my parents asked me if I have anything for her "dry mouth". I told her to stick out her tongue and what I saw was a greasy white coating lying on a reddened and engorged tongue. I told her immediately this is digestion related and she nodded and told me about her reflux. Instead of telling her what to eat I told her the opposite---what not to eat. People these days have a preconception that things must have taken in for the benefit of the body. They forget t...he other way works as well. Not eating certain things does wonders for the body too. This patient is overweight to a certain degree. Based on her presentation it is clear this is simply a result of eating too much meat. Most people don't agree with this but having meat on daily basis is considered too much for the caloric need of most people these days. In the old days when our forefathers toiled the lands they didn't even have meat. I told her you don't need to eat anything. Just stop eating meat for 1 week and sub in with tofu. Make sure to up the greens too. I didn't get the impression she got my idea or agreed to do so but what can I do. Half of all medical problems comes from personal choice. I forgot to tell her that it takes upwards of 2000-2500 gallons of water to make one pound of beef. Maybe that would make some difference?
