May your weekend make you as happy as my cat with her new floppy fish Christmas gift. I’m at the clinic until 1:00pm!

I'm at the clinic today for my last clinic day of 2020. Happy New Year!

Another weekend, another hike! We have been putting our Conservation Halton membership to VERY good use these days. On Sunday morning, we dropped off a car at Crawford Lake and then drove to Rattlesnake Point and hiked back- it's just over 5km and it's a GORGEOUS trail, most of it along the escarpment. With reservation time restrictions in place, you aren't allowed to do the round-trip, but this point-to-point was great! The trail was icy, but we brought Yaktrax and ski poles, and we were golden! Happy Monday, I'm at the clinic 11am-7pm today.

I'd guess that we now have more than 100 ornaments (I don't count them!), but I wrote this post a couple of years ago, when we were at 91: https://drworobec.com/2018/11/27/91-each-with-a-story/ Our Christmas tree has been taken down; it was getting dry and dropping needles everywhere. But, taking it down is also a chance to reminisce and remember the stories that go with each ornament.....

Hurray! I've been named a Nuun Hydration ambassador for the 4th? 5th? year in a row. I LOVE this stuff, and if you're an active person then you should too! Nuun is a sugar-free electrolyte tab to be added to your water before, during, or after exercise. Check them out! #nuunlife

Kettlebell swings. These are a staple of mine during lockdown, as a kettlebell is one of the few pieces of workout equipment that I have at home. The most common error that people make with a kettlebell swing is lumbar flexion- you should be doing a hip hinge and bending at your hip crease, NOT through your lower back as the kettlebell pulls you forward. Watch my lower back here; I maintain my lumbar curve throughout the entire swing AND when I set it down at the end. (Do you like my workout music? Alexa, play songs by Garth Brooks! )

The World Junior Hockey Championships are easily one of my favourite sporting events of the year, and in my sports-starved life these days, I am enjoying them even more. I have been to four different WJHC tournaments, including one in Ottawa in 2009 when I was 38 weeks pregnant! My husband and I bought the entire ticket package that year and went to EVERY SINGLE GAME. It was in our corner that Jordan Eberle scored his famous semi-final goal against Russia, remember that? My smile is big this morning, and my fatigue will be big tomorrow morning, as I stay up late tonight and watch Team Canada win gold!

Happy holidays from my family to yours!

Kathy is spreading the dog love to my family’s new pup. And she’s spreading the love at the front desk today too! We’re both at the clinic all day today, and we’ll see you soon.

My husband and kids have been trying to convince me to get a second dog for many, many months now. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE dogs, but I have never had two dogs at once, and the thought of taking that on was daunting. But, last week I found a beautiful pup online who was being re-homed and my heart immediately went to her. We were one of hundreds of inquiries, narrowed down to one of four applicants, and finally chosen to be her new family! Blue is on the left of this phot...o (she's 2.5) and Bella is on the right (she just turned 1)- and guess what? They are BOTH Golden Doodles! This is what a cold, dark, 6am walk looks like.

Yup, still recovery for this girl. I did a 27km trail race on November 8th and my effort output was high! I ran beyond my fitness, and I’m still not quite back to my usual self. I’m focusing on more strength, less mileage, more sleep, more water, cleaner nutrition. Recovery is just as important as training, friends.

Old shoes on the left, new shoes on the right. I just made the switch this weekend. I've been wearing Mizuno Wave Riders for many, many years. These particular models are Wave Rider 20s, which I stocked up on when I found a sale, so I have a couple more pairs waiting in my closet. Shoe manufacturers tend to make little tweaks to their shoes every year, so I imagine the current Wave Rider 24 that's on store shelves will feel a bit different than this 20. For now, I'm worki...ng my way through my stash. The shoes on the left are about 5 months old and have 825km on them. They still feel pretty good, but I have learned that if I push them beyond their lifespan, I end up injured. And even though they still feel good, they're clearly beyond their best: Check out that wear pattern on the heel of the left shoe! That's where my heel strikes the pavement. Lesson: running shoes can make or break your mechanics. Choose wisely!

I wrote this post at the beginning of May, mid-way through the Covid closure at the clinic. Many of you are talking to me about Covid fatigue lately and how you're feeling during this pandemic. Maybe you need a read over this one today: https://drworobec.wordpress.com/wp-admin/post.php

History was made for women in sport yesterday, the glass ceiling being further chipped away: congratulations to Kim Ng, named the first female GM in the MLB! "When you can see it, you can be it." I'm so thankful that my daughter can see women in positions such as this.

Do you know what lefse is? It's a soft, potato-based Norwegian flatbread. My heritage is Norwegian and my Mom and Aunts always served lefse at family holiday meals. I won't be travelling to Alberta for Christmas this year, so I'm getting a bit of Alberta sent to me. You're going to think I'm crazy, but I've ordered 3lbs of lefse to be shipped to me in Burlington, made by the same small-town-Alberta lady that my Mom orders from.... All I want for Christmas is a taste of home.

My husband and I both have September birthdays, and this year my in-laws got us a Conservation Halton membership card. We have used it a lot this Fall, and this weekend we're headed to Rattlesnake Point! I'm always on the hunt for new hiking trails. Do you have a favourite local hike?
