Ontario has suspended limitation periods. Deadlines under the Rules are also suspended, subject to the discretion of the court. This is a necessary step given the closure of the courts.

Last night we received notice that both the Superior Court of Justice (Bracebridge) and the Ontario Court of Justice (Parry Sound) are closing, possibly for as long as 8-12 weeks. Some matters, including emergency matters and temporary care hearings will still proceed. We will be in contact with our clients individually as we learn more. In the meantime, our office will be open by appointment only. Please call or email us before coming in.

At Dryland Law, we love dogs. We even employ one full time and have a second part-timer. While it would be nice to see them gain legal recognition as living beings rather than property, we're not holding our breath. However, you can use this property designation to your advantage if you're bringing a pet into a new relationship by including your dog, cat, lizard, etc. in a cohabitation agreement.

Gozer wasn’t spayed when she joined our firm, so we know how expensive it can be. If you have an animal companion who isn’t fixed, you might want to take advantage of this opportunity.

It is with sadness that I announce that Michelle will be leaving Dryland Law as of today. I am grateful for all of the hard work that she put into helping me build this practice, and will remain forever indebted to her for it. I wish her well in her future endeavours.

No Vacation for Manna Food Bank of Bracebridge ** A reminder that hunger is not seasonal ** BRACEBRIDGE, July 25, 2019 With the availability of seasonal emplo...yment opportunities in the warmer months, the number of clients requesting help from the Manna Food Bank of Bracebridge is traditionally not as high as it is during the busy winter months. Unfortunately, food insecurity does remain a reality for some in Muskoka, even in the summer. And it is for this reason that we are asking you to consider making a donation to the Manna Food Bank to assist those in need in our community this summer. About Manna About 600 families in Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Muskoka Lakes and beyond accessed the food bank last year. This represents about 5,000 individuals, a third of whom are children. The reasons our clients require a helping hand are many. It could be employment-related (job loss, precarious or under-employment), high housing costs, accident, illness or a combination of issues. Some of our clients are seniors whose OAS or ODSP is simply not sufficient to make ends meet. The majority of our clients only come once or twice to help them through a difficult time. Volunteer Run, Community Funded Whatever their need, Manna is there to serve them, all year around. The food bank is open on Tuesday and Friday afternoons, between 1 and 4 p.m. weekly. Manna functions entirely through the efforts of our dedicated and caring volunteers; we do not have any paid employees. Our funding is entirely through donations of our amazingly generous community. How to Help If you are able to support us in our efforts, donations can be made: - Online by going to our webpage , or - Mail a cheque to: Manna Food Bank, P.O. Box 462, Bracebridge ON P1L 1T8. Receipts are given for all financial donations, and if we have your email address, can be provided electronically. Donations of food are also greatly appreciated. Items in continuous demand include peanut butter, mac and cheese, breakfast cereal and canned fish. Food donations must be unopened, undamaged and within their expiry dates. Drop boxes for non-expired, non-perishable items are located at Gagnon’s Your Independent Grocer, Food Basics, the Bracebridge Sportsplex, Bracebridge Town Office at 1000 Taylor Court, and many of the local churches. Thank you! Your thoughtfulness allows us to do what we do all year round. Sam Robinson President Manna Food Bank [email protected] | 705-646-0114 (leave a message)

More fees are not the answer.

Doug Ford was talking about the Legal Aid cuts and said "They need to be more informed. If they actually looked into it, there is more money being spent on lawy...er fees and less cases." Community Legal Clinics got a new case management program in 2017 so it's hard to compare numbers from before and after the change, but one things for sure - we are serving more clients than ever: - Our clinic had a 35.8% increase in cases from 2013-14 to 2016-17 - Community Legal Clinics across Ontario had a 9% increase in cases from 2013-14 to 2016-17 - Legal Aid Ontario issued 33% more certificates from 2013-14 to 2018-2019 - Legal Aid Ontario's Duty Counsel program had a 3% increase in clients from 2013-14 to 2018-19 Doug Ford said to call him if you need Legal Aid. If you or your loved ones are one of the hundreds of thousands of people that have used Community Legal Clinics, please call Doug Ford and urge him to stop the cuts. #Justice4All Premier Doug Ford: 416-325-1941 Attorney General, Caroline Mulroney:416-326-2220 Muskoka-Parry Sound MPP Norm Miller: 705-645-8538

This is a huge injustice facing low-income families in Ontario. Hopefully it is corrected quickly.

It's hard to believe it's already been a year since Dryland Law opened it's doors, but here we are. I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank all of our clients, our friends for their support and everyone who has taken the time to refer me to someone who might need legal assistance. And of course, Michelle, who keeps this place running. Thank you everyone and Happy Halloween!!
