If you end up with gaps 1/8 inch or wider between panels, you might not be happy with the final result. Make sure you prefill the gaps and let them dry before you tape so the compound in the gaps will not negatively affect the tape.

Tip for do-it yourselfer's: If you don't have experience tapping, avoid fast-setting," mud that dries quickly. The mud can set before you have a chance to smooth it out, which makes for a lot of extra sanding.
