Down Syndrome Association of Toronto (DSAT) 18.12.2020

As per the information CDSS circulated January 6 on social media, we had a call late last week with Senior Policy Advisors (vaccine-specific) from the Minister ...of Health, the Honourable Patty Hajdu’s office, with regards to requesting a revision of COVID-19 vaccine priority allocation to include priority access for adult individuals with Down syndrome. Senior Advisors have promised CDSS a connection to the National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI). We continue to await an opportunity to ask for a revision to the Guidance on the prioritization of initial doses of COVID-19 vaccine(s) document to follow the lead of the US Centre for Disease Control (CDC) and other respected medical advisory bodies. We have followed up, stressing urgency as media stories and community interest builds. Vaccine efficiency has been studied in the general adult population only. This revision would include priority vaccine allocation to those 16 and older. To date, we are unaware of any allocation recommendations of COVID-19 vaccine for children. Individuals and caregivers should consult with their personal physician about receiving any vaccine. Please continue to follow all regional public health measures including, Wash your hands, Wear a mask and Watch your distance. Media inquiries within your geographic area may also be forwarded to CDSS at (800) 883-5608. #Covid19T21 #DownSydromeCanada #DownSyndromeHealth #DownSydromeCare #DownSyndromeAdvocacy
