The U of S College of Medicine is back with this year’s 9th annual Global Health Conference! This year’s conference will be held on WebEx over three consecutive Saturday afternoons in January 2021 (Jan 9, 16, and 23) from 1 to 4:30 PM each day. UPDATE: With your help and generosity we have reached our goal of $3000. The fundraiser will remain open until Christmas Day and a final total will be announced... on Boxing Day. Thank you! Hey everyone! We’re excited to bring you week 2 of the SMSS/ Division of Social Accountability - U of S Community Awareness Month initiative! For this week, we’ll be highlighting the efforts of a group of our colleagues from the Usask College of Medicine Class of 2022 who are seeking to address the social impacts of homelessness and unstable housing in Saskatchewan. COVID-19 has placed a heavy burden on shelters which provide essential services to community members affected by unstable housing and homelessness, and with the weather getting colder these organizations need our help more than ever. The organizations this initiative will be supporting are the YWCA locations in Saskatoon, Regina, and Prince Albert. Any amount helps, and your generosity will be so appreciated by these organizations and their clients. The holidays are a time where many of us enjoy getting to spend time indoors, stay warm, and take it easy. Let’s do what we can to help others experience those same joys and comforts this holiday season! To share or donate to the cause, please see gofund.me/8d453990 For questions or more information, contact Kyra Ives at [email protected]. Check out these organizations on social media if you’d like to keep up with the amazing work they’re doing! Happy holidays everyone! This year, the SMSS is partnering with the Division of Social Accountability - U of S to raise awareness for some exciting opportunitie...s to support local organizations doing valuable work in our communities. We will be addressing a different area of need each week for the next three weeks, and for this first week our focus will be food security. A report published by the Saskatchewan Food Costing Task Group indicated that ~11% of households in Saskatchewan experience food insecurity. However, these numbers do not include households on First Nations reserves or people who are homeless or living in transient housing so food insecurity in Saskatchewan is likely much higher than indicated. The Saskatoon Food Bank & Learning Centre, REACH (Regina), and the P.A Food Bank are all wonderful organizations directly addressing this area of need and your support for them this year will be invaluable. Online donations can be made to each of these organizations at the links below, but in addition to general donations the Saskatoon Food Bank and Learning Centre is having their Stuff the Bus event until Dec 18th. For this event, the Saskatoon Food Bank is attempting to fill a city bus with donations of non-perishable food for the community. More information on this event can be found at the link below. If you are unable to donate at this time, please follow the organizations on their respective social media platforms in order to stay up to date on their amazing work. The holidays are a time for caring, family, and good food. Let’s show our care for our Saskatchewan family/community by sharing some good food with them this holiday season.
