We are very excited to welcome DSBCD Faculty member Shannon Maguire! Shannon Maguire has been performing and dancing since she was a little girl and it is still her greatest passion. She was a member of the 2010 Adult Canadian Tap Team competing in Germany and performed alongside SYTYCD star, Everett Smith. In 2013, Shannon graduated from The Young Americans College of Performing Arts in Southern California and that is where she fell in love with teaching. Shannon has taught ...in 9 different countries ranging from South Africa to The Netherlands and United Kingdom. During her years in Toronto, Shannon has acted in many short films and TV series, as well as danced at public events, such as the PanAm Games, Invictus Games ceremonies, and numerous sporting events. Most recently, Shannon has been choreographing, co-directing and performing in musical theatre productions, adjudicating, and traveling North America hosting interactive childrens shows. Are you between the ages of (Pre-Teen)10-12 or (Teens) 13-16 and never danced before? We have the class for you at DSBCD in Whitby..! By using creative expression and creating connections that enhance movement to music, we have a programme that will give you the tools and elements to do just that. Technical training is learned through elements such as, dynamics, quality of movement, body isolations, spatial awareness and improv - the bodys natural rhythm to move and disc...over dance. Combinations that incorporate one or more of these elements are taught each week to develop the dancer as well as give them a sense of overall enjoyment of the art. No previous training required, just a desire to dance and have some fun. Added bonus: meet and make new friends and get some physical exercise too! Introductory Contemporary Dance Classes run in 8 week sessions. Upon completion, the dancer can choose a level that will take them to the next level in their training. Dates: September 17th - November 5th 2020 Cost: $160 + Hst Attire: Girls: Black Leggings and a black tank top, bare feet - no shoes required. We love our new #fogmaster that we are using every single day with #vitaloxide hospital grade disinfectant to sanitize our entire studio! Barres, Mats and high touch areas will be sanitized throughout the evening/day as well as sanitizer dispensers on the wall in every room. Please keep in mind the following process to follow when you arrive at DSBCD on September 14th for our first day of classes:... Wear a mask to arrive and until you get to your class. This is a public health guideline and is mandatory when moving through the building. Masks are optional to wear while dancing. Take off outdoor shoes upon arrival. We ask that you come already changed and ready for your class. We ask that parents pick up and drop off only where ever possible. Small children may be accompanied by one adult only. Our teachers will be doing a Covid self-assessment each day before work as well as taking their temperature. Well we will not be doing a temperature check at the door for students. We politely ask that parents do the Covid assessment before bringing your child to DSBCD. A self assessment checklist can be found on our website. We cant wait to see everyone and we look forward to continuing our dance journeys together. We cant thank all of our families enough for your support during such an unprecedented time!

New faculty announcement: Please welcome AJ Simmons to our #DSBCD community! Award winning dancer, choreographer and teacher, AJ Simmons, has taken his skills across four continents across Theatre, Film, Television, commercial and studio platforms. Hes a champion Bboy/Hip Hop dancer and a UK tap dance champion title holder with his brother Benjamin. Having taught dance and choreographed alongside his performing career that has spanned to roles such as DANNY ZUKO in Grease, PEPPER in Mamma Mia! International Tour and TONY MANERO in Saturday Night Fever North American Tour, he has currently settled in Toronto where he shares his styles internationally, commercially, and privately.

We are so thrilled to announce Robyn Segel Shifren A.R.A.D. Director of Progressing Ballet Technique Canada, Mexico and South Africa will be teaching at our annual DSBCD Summer Intensive! Director of Inspired Movement Dance Ballet Conservatory. Robyn Segel Shifren trained in Cecchetti, and R.A.D. methods, achieving her Solo Seal. Robyn attended The Royal Ballet School in London. Asked to join the Sadlers Wells Royal Ballet (Birmingham Royal Ballet), Robyn spent severa...l years travelling with the company. On returning to her native South Africa, Robyn danced with P.A.C.T. Ballet and N.A.P.A.C as principle dancer.Working with renowned teachers and choreographers, Robyn performed many leading roles, including Giselle, Coppelia, Romeo and Juliet, Don Quixote and Swan Lake. As the lead dancer in several Balanchine ballets, Robyn danced- The Four Temperaments, Apollo, Sonantine, Allegro Brilliante and Tchaikowsky Pas De Deux. Ballets choreographed for her include: Killars Miraculous Mandarine and Baccus and Ariandne, and Nierewiczs Shostakovich Pas De Deux. A ballet Segel-Suite was written and performed in Germany as a dedication to her work.Director of IDM Ballet Conservatory in San Diego, Robyn teaches ballet and PBT full time- travelling to present Workshops, Coach and Judge. Perfect technique and training are an integral part of any dancers success. An ability to tap into the soul and bring out each persons unique gifts, are skills that I am impassioned to share.
