Hello Dolphins! In order to abide by the announced provincial shut down, all CFB Kingston Clubs are now closed until Jan 25th 2021. Therefore, The Dolphin Scuba Club will be closed to all services and members until further notice. ... The Club Executive has received the authorization to have the compressor running at least once a week as a preventive maintenance measure only. Furthermore, in the last few weeks, contractors have been working in the pool area. Concrete dust has infiltrated into the Club, which has covered all of our gear. Until we are allowed to regain access and have a thorough cleanup, we will not be able to re-open our doors to members and rent gear. An Annual General Meeting will be required soon in the new year. We will opt for an online format. All Executive positions will require voting and there will be some vacancies to be filled. As announced back in September, I will be stepping down as President as soon as we can run an AGM. We will be looking for new people to join in and help keep our Club growing. 2020 has been a very particular year and we can only hope that after this second shutdown, things will go for the better for 2021 season. On behalf of the entire Club Executive, I would like to wish a great holiday season to all of our members. Stay safe and healthy! We hope to see you in great numbers for next season! #ComeDiveWithUs in 2021! #VienPlongerAvecNous en 2021! Guillaume Courcy President - DSC Photo credit: www.padi.com

Hello Dolphins! Wednesday afternoon, all CFB Kingston club presidents received the following direction from the Base Commander: With the recent changes to the Province’s PHMs, the posture has been reviewed and changes are as follows: The hobby Clubs will remain open to their CAF serving members only. To simplify, only those currently wearing a CAF uniform are allowed to access club assets and property effective immediately.... As a result, all non-serving Regular Members (including families), Ordinary and Associate members are not allowed access to the Club nor they can use the facilities or rent/use its equipment until further notice. Though we appreciate the frustration, we are forced to comply. The Executive is presented with the difficult decision: do we remain open for the serving members only or, in an attempt to be fair to all members, close our doors completely? To close our doors completely would seem to be the fair thing to do. If a category of members is not allowed to access the Club, then perhaps nobody should. However, preventing all members to access the Club because a portion of its membership cannot does not seem fair either. Looking at our membership numbers for this season, the majority are serving members. Ordinary and Associate members count for less than 25% of our membership. Veterans and family members of serving members, while another important group, also count for about 25% of our membership. Therefore, with about 50% of its members being serving CAF members, Regular or Reserve, it wouldn’t seem appropriate to close our doors completely. Taking into consideration the shortened season this year, both at the beginning and the end, the Executive has come up with some solutions to mitigate the loss of access to the Club: - All Regular, Ordinary and Associate members who are impacted by this new directive, and who had a paid membership for 2020, will have their membership extended for all of 2021 Season - Members who joined the Club in September 2019 had their membership valid until the end of this season. Because of the shortened season this year, these members will be offered a 50% rebate on their 2021 membership - Members who were looking to rent equipment and join on Club dives can contact the Executive in order to try to find mitigating solutions for gear rental. We hope that our membership understands that directives like these are imposed on us and we do our best to find solutions that work for all members. We are looking after everyone’s interests and we are hoping that the situation will change for the better in a near future. Thank you for your understanding and support. Best Regards, Guillaume Courcy President Dolphin SCUBA Club

Not likely that any of us will encounter these here, but eventually, we will get the chance to travel again and you could be facing this problem. This is another reason why buoyancy control is important. Being able to do your safety stop without having to grab the mooring line, unless absolutely necessary, is a great skill to have.

DOLPHIN SCUBA CLUB MEMBERS, It has come to the clubs attention that a lot of the rental gear is not being cared for/put away properly. I think we can all agree that we offer excellent rates for gear rental. The only way we can continue to offer these great rates is with all of your help. When you rent dive gear from us, please ensure all gear is treated properly while in your care and properly put away upon return to the club. Hello Dolphins! As we are stepping into September, the days are getting shorter and the water will start getting colder, this is an all to painful reminder that the dive season will start to slow down. That being said, we still have a good two months ahead of us for the regular season. The COVID-19 situation affected everyone differently. The Dolphin SCUBA Club, like many other organizations, had to put its activities on hold for a while. Some of the things we would normally ...accomplish have either been delayed on cancelled. Our opening season dive BBQ, Clean Up and other special activities. One of our major responsibility as a Club is to abide by PSP Policies and our Constitution, Bylaws and Dive Orders. And one of the obligations that we have is to run at least two General Assembly meetings during the calendar year, one of which serves to elect the members of the Executive Committee to the different positions. This is important because it gives us the legitimacy to represent you and to manage the Club responsibly and diligently. As such, I have had the privilege to serve as part of the Executive for the last 7 years. Beginning as the Equipment Manager, I slowly raised towards VP and then to my current position of President. I have had immense pleasure and honour to lead a great group of passionate divers to make this Club one of the best and, likely, the biggest Military Recreational Dive Clubs across the country. Tonight though, I am facing a painful decision. In order to be compliant with all inherent policies that govern our activities, I am obliged to step down from my functions as the President of the Club. There were so many projects that I had in mind of accomplishing for our Club. Unfortunately, I will have to pass the rein back to someone else. Therefore, an Annual General Meeting (AGM) will need to take place in a near future in order to enable a successful transition and succession planning for the President's position, as well as others. I am hoping to be able to keep serving the Club in any capacity that will be allowed by policy. From now and until a replacement is found and elected, I will remain in position to ensure a smooth transition. However, I will no longer enforce the delegated financial authority entrusted in me as the President. Regardless if I will be able to even stay as a member of the Executive, I plan on staying as a Regular Member of the Club and an Instructor, so I can keep passing on my passion to others. Thank you for everyone who have supported me and the Club over the years. I hope this keeps growing bigger and bigger. Looking forward to seeing you in the water! As some of you may have noticed, the shore dive has been cancelled for tomorrow. This is due to the fact that the city of Kingston has recently had an overflow of the municipal water system. The overflow may cause adverse effects to the water conditions such has harmful bacteria. Because of this the decision has been made to cancel the dive. Please see the link below for more information. The club will be open for gear rental from 10 - 11 for those who plan to dive farther from town. https://utilitieskingston.com/Wastewater/SewerOverflow/Map

Dolphins - if you are looking for training we are exploring doing Advanced Open Water, Rescue and Specialties (such as Nitrox, Dry Suit, Self Reliant Diver, Photography, ect..) training at this time. Basic Open Water courses will remain not available for the foreseeable future (Until the base gym/pool opens at the least). Weather conditions seems to be holding for now... so meet at the Club at 10am as planned. But we are going to dive tomorrow as well... 10am Sunday morning, whether or not we dive today.

CFB Kingston Dolphin Scuba Club 02.05.2020

DOLPHINS!!! The weather forecast has been changing a lot in the last 24 hours. From thunderstorm, heavy winds to scattered showers, we do not know what we will going to get tomorrow. We are not cancelling the dive, but it is a "watch and shoot" stance. If it is cloudy and rainy, we will still dive. ... If the winds are too strong or if there is chances of a thunderstorm, we will reschedule the dive for Sunday. Therefore... the meeting time at the Club for tomorrow is still 10am. If we decide to postpone the dive, we will announce it here. Stay tuned. ABOUT THE PUBLIC HEALTH ORDER As announced today, it is now mandatory to wear a mask at indoor public areas. Our Pandemic Standing Operating Order was already written in this manner. Therefore, we are already compliant with the new measures announced today by the KFL&A Public Health.... if you come to the Club, you need to have your face mask on. Looking forward to see you, even if it is in limited numbers. #comedivewithus #ViensPlongerAvecNous

Hello Dolphins! We are proud to announce that this morning, June 22nd, we received the green light from PSP to resume our operations after over three months of forced closure. We still have a few little things to get sorted before officially opening our doors, but we are glad to inform you that our first day for gear rentals, air fills combined to an organized shore dive will be this coming weekend, Saturday, 27 June. REMINDER: We will not be renting mask or snorkels for this... season. It is everyone's responsibility to bring their own. If you do not have your dive mask and snorkel, you need to procure one. Our masks have been removed from our shelves and we will not have any available. PPE: It is also everyone's responsibility to bring their own personal protective equipment. Face masks are mandatory if you plan at coming to the Club. Bring your own hand sanitizer. We will not be providing these for when you show up. SHORE DIVES: Stay tuned to our FB page for our Events, we will be creating one for this coming Saturday. We are limited to the provincial directive of 10 people groupings. Therefore, we ask that people register so we can plan accordingly. GEAR NIGHTS: For this season, we will not open the Club on Mondays and Thursdays, every week, like previous years. For the start of this season, we will open the Club on appointments and see how it goes. We will adapt as the season progresses to try to determine our membership's needs and how we can best serve you given the situation. CHARTERS: There will be no charter nights like before. Currently, we are looking at available options for the Kingston region. But we cannot commit to a regular charter night at this time. COURSES: As mentioned in previous posts and on our website, we will not be running courses at this time. The Base Pool is still closed, and we will re-evaluate when it does if we can run courses and in what format. MEMBERSHIP: We are currently working to have all our forms enable to be filled and signed digitally. The Club will be transitioning to the PSP BookKing platform for its membership. More to follow on the new process for registering with the Club for this year. The Membership costs have remained the same for Regular (40$), Associate (50$) and Guest (10$). In order to be in line with PSP policy, we have increased the Ordinary Membership to 45$. COVID-19 PROCEDURES: Our Standard Operating Procedures during this pandemic is listed on our website. It is every member responsibility to get acquainted with this SOP prior to get to the Club. www.dolphinscubaclub.com #ViensPlongerAvecNous

Hello Dolphins! In order to be able to open our doors to our members, we need to have everything in place and pass a compliance inspection from PSP. We will have our inspection this coming Monday, 22 June and, hopefully, will be able to start the diving season soonest.... If you haven't done so already, we invite you to have a look on our website and get familiar with the procedures we have put in place for gear rentals/returns and air fills, as well as the best practices to adopt at the different dive sites. Just go to the COVID-19 tab. www.dolphinscubaclub.com We are looking forward to see you soon! #ComeDiveWithUs #ViensPlongerAvecNous

CFB Kingston Dolphin Scuba Club 22.03.2020

Hello Dolphins! Today marks the third month since we were directed to close our doors as a preventive measure against COVID-19. The Club Executive has kept working in the background to keep up to date of the situation and maintain our compressor in order to be ready for re-opening.... In collaboration with PSP, if all goes well, we should be able to re-open the Club in a very near future. We will have special procedures in place in order to be able to operate and offer some of our services. For now, the Base Pool is still closed and therefore, we are not planning on running Basic Open Water courses. For other training like Advanced Open Water, Specialties and Rescue Courses, we have decided to wait before scheduling those courses. PADI and DAN have issued training recommendations and best practices but, at this time, these measures would be difficult to apply for our Club. We will be able to offer gear rentals and air fills with specific sanitization protocols. The Executive as decided that for this season, we will NOT be offering dive masks and snorkels for rental. Therefore, members will require to purchase and bring their own mask and snorkel. As for regulators, we will be following recommendations and sanitization procedures established by Divers Alert Network, who are recognized as the leaders for medical advices for the diving industry. There will be amendments to our usual season schedule. Unfortunately, Wednesday Charter Dives will not be possible this year as Kingston Dive Charters has decided to not run boats for 2020. Our shore dives events will be limited in number of people who can attend based on Public Health recommendations and provincial restrictions. More information on what we will be offering and how will come out soon. So, stay tuned to our FB Page and Group for more information. We are looking forward to seeing all of you, in smaller groups, very soon! Guillaume Courcy President - DSC #comedivewithus #ViensPlongerAvecNous
