I've been noticing a trend lately that I can not say I like. There is an ever increasing number of posts to "photography" groups that are not photographs. They are digital creations. I feel like these cheapen what it means to be a photographer in general as they don't show any actual picture taking skills. Great, you know how to use Photoshop, post it in a graphic artist group. Can we please leave the photography groups for actual photos? I'm not talking image stacking ...or that kind of thing, I mean the complete manipulation of a photo ranging from sky swaps to complete creations using tonnes of stock photos. I personally edit my pictures but do not replace anything. I understand stacking images of multiple exposures and that makes sense as the camera can not see what our eyes do. However, if your eyes didn't see it anywhere other than your computer screen, can you really call it a photo, or claim it as your photograph? No, you can't. There are lots of tricks professional photographers use to achieve the look they want (ie. Light painting, exposure bracketing, etc.) and these are photography skills. In some ways I'm really feeling like digital has ruined photography. Sorry for the rant, but it needs to be said. See more
