The tale of Egyptian Twin Murders RAYA and SAKINA, as reinterpreted in this photo project by @habbykhalil Once upon a real time, there were two sisters named Raya and Sakina, who for years kidnapped and killed women for their money and jewelry. With the help of their husbands and others, the two women would lure victims into their home, drug and kill them before burying their bodies under the tiles. Their killing spree spanned a period of a year, leading to the deaths of 17... women. In 1921, they were sentenced to death, making them the first women to be hung for their crimes under Egypt’s modern law. This image suggests the sinister force of the sisters and the presence they commanded in a man’s world. It reveals the balance and symmetry the sisters in relationship to the viewer, Bracelets and anklets are placed on opposite legs and arms, creating a wall that the sisters use to protect each other and survive, daring to risk the consequences. #egypt #alexandria #urbanlegend

Plan for a photo exhibit. We wanted to create a spatial experience of being enveloped by image, rather than just looking at it. The image is embedded into large partitions arranged in a geometric maze made of two way glass and mirror glass.
