While the causes of eutrophication are many, the solutions may be simpler than you think! Wetland soils, plants and bacteria are extremely effective at removing surplus nutrients from water. Preserving wetlands and their functions on the landscape helps improve water quality for us all.
Conserving natural areas in agricultural landscapes pays big biodiversity dividends! Along with habitat for wildlife, carbon storage and nutrient management, spinoffs include improvements in soil health and pest control and pollination services. We all benefit from biodiversity!
Thanks for everything you do every day to support habitat conservation and management in Saskatchewan!
So much to love about this gangly species! Provincially imperiled, sandhill cranes nest at several marshes in SK. Cranes can do well in agricultural areas... as long as they have wetlands needed for nesting, foraging, and protection from predators. Do you have nesting sandhills near you?
Saskatchewan's wetlands: still hard at work, even under the ice and snow. #WelcometoWinter
Ignore the fact that Lisa already had her Christmas tree up and decorated on November 17, and plan to participate in the "Duck the Halls" Virtual Live Auction event... this Thursday, November 26! Lots of great items and a way to do your Christmas shopping while supporting conservation work here and across Canada.
"Working with the environment was important to them from the outset." Love it when ranching families like the Seelhofs receive the recognition they deserve!
Whether you’ve been naughty or nice, join in as we bring the fast-paced, fun-filled auction experience right to your home with this free-to-attend live event. Thursday, November 26!
Wadena DUC office's Ashton has a new Australian Shepherd/Border Collie pup named Daisy! Over the past month, Daisy has made a great companion while Ashton completed field inspections on a number of projects in the RM of Lake Lenore. DUC habitat: a special place for young, old, and everything in between!
It can be hard saying goodbye to all our favourite bird species for the winter... so we're especially thankful for the bright light that chickadees provide! These friendly puff balls need tree cavities for both nesting and winter roosting. Snags around wetlands are crucial!
On National Child Day we're celebrating kids and their voices! Kids like Damon and Graham Chernick who helped develop outdoor adventure guides that get kids out exploring nature, including a number of important wetland areas around Regina! https://loom.ly/IGZcv_0
