Did you know that gum disease can increase your risk heart disease? Studies show that people with gum disease are 2-3 times more likely to experience a heart attack or stroke than those with healthy gums. One reason for this is the chronic inflammatory burden on the body that results when it is constantly battling the bugs in the mouth and trying to heal. Treating and stabilizing gum disease can lower this risk. Just one more reason to regularly visit your dental hygienist!

How many teeth do you have?

Duggan Family Dental 11.08.2020

You may be wondering, is it safe to go to the dentist? We are taking every measure to make sure the dental office remains a safe place for your treatment needs. We are pre-screening patients prior to their appointment, and we are asking patients who are unwell to delay treatment. We will also take your temperature when you arrive at the dental office. Infection control has always been an important part of dentistry, and now our staff are wearing enhanced PPE, including hair c...overings, gowns, and face shields. All dental staff are screened daily for symptoms and we take our temperature twice a day during work. We have also made adjustments to our schedule to help maintain social distancing. If you have any questions or concerns, we are here for you! Please give our office a call or send us a message on Facebook. We look forward to catching up with all of our wonderful patients!

Slurpee season is here!

Did you know... Local anesthetic or freezing that dentists use was first discovered through cocaine? In 1884, Karl Koller experimented on himself by applying a cocaine solution to his own eye and then pricking it with pins. It didn’t hurt! This led to the development of novocaine in 1905, which could numb tissues without addictive and euphoric effects of cocaine. Novocaine is often used to describe dental freezing, however today we use alternatives like lidocaine that are hypoallergenic.

We made it to June! We will hopefully see Phase 2 of our Alberta’s relaunch this month allowing more people to go back to work and fewer restrictions. Which means (maybe) more fun in the sun! I’m sure people are tired of hearing ‘wash your hands’ but please, keep washing your hands and stay safe!

I mean, it’s not a bad idea....

Duggan Family Dental 06.04.2020

In an abundance of caution and with the advice of the ADA+C and CRDHA, we are suspending all nonessential and non-urgent dental care until further notice. If you have a dental emergency, please call Dr. Assaly at 780-887-5008. If you have an appointment in the coming week, we will be in touch to reschedule. The health and welfare of our patients and our staff are the utmost priority, and we look forward to getting back to serving you all soon.

Please join us in welcoming Dr. Sonia Thibault to our office! Dr. Thibault was born in the province of Quebec. After graduating from high school, she moved from her small town to attend Champlain Regional College in order to follow her dream of studying the English language. After completing her studies, she went on to attend Dentistry at Laval University in beautiful Québec city and graduated with a Doctor of Dental Medicine degree in 1998. Dr. Thibault has wanted to be a de...ntist since she was 12 years old. To this day, she feels very grateful and privileged to do what she's truly passionate about. Not only helping patients with their oral health, she alleviates their anxiety and helps them feel better about themselves. Dr. Thibault first came to Alberta in December 2003 with her 6 month old daughter, Salima. She practiced in Lloydminster for 8 years, then family obligations took her to Fort McMurray for 7 years. She's happy to now call Edmonton her home! After an exciting and rewarding day at the clinic, she enjoys sporting activities, participating in local events, as well as spending quality time with her family! She attends dental continuing education locally and abroad. Dr. Thibault also has a passion for languages. She speaks fluent English, French, Spanish, and Creole, and is currently working on learning Portuguese. Dr Thibault loves to share her knowledge and experience of the dental field with all of her patients here at Duggan Family Dental, and looks forward to providing you with her excellent care!
