With the Ontario Ministry of Education's announcement today about school re-openings across Southern Ontario, it means different opening dates for schools within the #UCDSB since we're located among two separate public health units. Please see this update outlining when our schools are scheduled to re-open for in-person learning: bit.ly/3c3vt0T
Here are some of the decorated doors this week. They were judged for creativity, festivity and presentation by our student council co-chairs. All doors were within a half or 1 point. Room 206, 213 and 109 received the highest scores. Well done everyone!
Thank you to our Duncan J. Schoular School Council for the yummy ice cream sandwiches for our students and staff this week. A delicious treat enjoyed by all. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season.
Thank you to the Smiths Falls Free Methodist Church (SFFMC) for supporting a Subway Lunch for our students and staff this week and purchasing popcorn for our students who watched a movie with their classes as part of our Pyjama and Comfy Clothes Spirit Day on Friday, December 18th. Our community health partners, The Leeds, Grenville & Lanark District Health Unit and the Eastern Ontario Health Unit, have indicated this evening that parents should use the provincial screening tool that was updated today. If your child passes the screening they can attend school, even if they are waiting for test results. http://ow.ly/JdGa50BHhWd
We would like to recognize Mary- Lynn Durant for supporting our students safe arrival and departure each school day at Duncan J. Schoular. Mary-Lynn recently celebrated 10 years as our Crossing Guard at the corner of Chambers and McGill. Congratulations Mary-Lynn from the students, staff and families of Duncan J. Schoular!
The number of #UCDSB staff away with COVID-19 symptoms, self-isolating or awaiting test results is increasing. Approx. 500 subs are needed most days. If we can't secure adequate staff, schools will be forced to cancel classes or close temporarily. Read on: https://bit.ly/3l1pc7f
We are inviting students and staff to wear orange tomorrow, Wednesday, September 30th.
One of our students enjoyed the sensory walk in the hall this week. Well done Harley!
Due to the heightened state we find ourselves in these days, we want to inform you that the ambulance responded to a situation at Duncan J. Schoular this afternoon. We want to reassure you that this is not COVID 19 related. A member of our school community is receiving care and the immediate family members have been contacted.

It has some helpful info on what families can do to keep their child safe, what to do if someone becomes ill or tests positive at school, and who to call with questions: https://bit.ly/2FwVGH0.
