Happy Wednesday everyone! Its been a great week so far at DLA. The children have been busy working on their counting, sorting, letters and numbers! They have also been busy watering and taking care of our garden. The kids have been loving outside as usual and the cooler weather!
Things were officially back in full swing here at DLA with everyone starting school. It was a great week, filled with tons of learning and new experiences for each age group! We heard many stories from our children about making new friends, liking their teachers, riding the bus for the first time and how exciting this school year will be. We cant wait to continue to see our kids grow! Heres to a new school year, a unique one at that.
Harvesting season has started here at DLA. The girls and boys were busy today collecting cucumbers, carrots, beets and tomatoes to take home to use in some tasty salads. Also, there are lots of pumpkins in the patch that will be ready for Halloween. #lovethisgroup
Last week before school officially starts and the girls and boys are enjoying the beautiful weather. Lots of free play happening. Love it!
Love the balancing skills of these boys. Nice moves little men :)
This week the boys and girls are celebrating the end of our summer program with games and outside play. Even with the restrictions due to Covid-19, we had a fantastic time! #cantwaitfornextyear :)
With the start of the school year just around the corner, we at Dunn Learning Academy understand the concerns our DLA families may have during this unprecedented time. Rest assured that the safety of the children in our care is our number one priority and that they will be able to continue to be exposed to learning experiences in a safe environment. As a result, we have been very busy at DLA over the summer to make the necessary changes to make this happen. Firstly, we have... made the investment in our building infrastructure that allows each of our classrooms (baby room, 2-3 room, 3-5 room and afterschool room) the flexibility to be completely self-contained within their own walls, having their own bathroom and their own entrance and exit from the building. Secondly, we have hired additional early childhood educators to help address the necessary additional cleaning involved in keeping our learning space clean and safe for our children. We have also enhanced our Montessori pre-school program with the hiring of an early childhood educator with a background in music and French. You can look forward to these components being added to this program starting the week of September 14th. Our fingers are still crossed in the hopes that we will be able to have our regular music teacher, Buffy, return in the near future. Finally, we have not forgotten our afterschool program. Over the summer, we did a major reconfiguration of our indoor afterschool space to make it more Covid friendly. Also, in the event that there is a school closure, we have two certified NB teachers on staff with over 20 years of teaching experience in elementary and middle school that will work closely with our afterschool children to make sure that their learning continues. With our awesome team of educators and parents, we know that we will be able to meet any challenges that may arise during the up coming school year.
With the current situation with Covid-19, water week has looked a little different this year, but the girls and boys are still having a blast! The main focus of learning and fun is during craft time, however, the boys and girls still have been able to enjoy some outside water activities in their bubbles. :)
What a great week of learning about the stars and beyond. So many take home crafts and new found knowledge :) Looking forward to splash down next week with one of our favs, WATER WEEK! #letsgetsoaked
Some nice veggies from the garden. #yummy.
Space week has been out of this world ;) The girls and boys are having a blast learning about our solar system and space travel. Buzz would be proud of them.
We believe. :)
Another great camp in the books. We all had so much fun. Next week - "To Infinity and Beyond!" #moonwalk
Look at those moves :)
What a awesome swing. Look out Tiger!
Nice hit little man!
Who knew exercise could be so fun! Love these kids :) #weshouldbeinanikecommercial
The boys and girls had an awesome time during ocean week. They learned so much about the ocean and how humans, animals and plants depend on it. It was not all about "work" though as we brought the ocean and beach to our parking lot for some fun in the sun. Next week.....batter up
The girls and boys are enjoying another week of fun and friendship. This weeks focus is on learning about the ocean, its importance to us and the sea creatures that live there. We are having a "whale" of a good time. ;)
Fun, fun, fun! That was what this week was all about. So many stories and learning experiences had by all. The old telephone and record player were the hits of the week. Bye, bye 70s and 80s, we have an ocean to explore next week.
Pumpkins are looking good. Getting bigger every day. #giantpumpkin.
Retro week has begun! The girls and boys are having a blast learning about the fashion, music, toys and books that were popular back in the 70s and 80s. So much fun!
Even though we celebrate nature here everyday, we are coming to the end of the official nature week and we have never had so much fun exploring and learning about the plants and animals that live in our community.. This week certainly did not disappoint! Next week - Retro week. A celebration of the 70s and 80s will be coming at you. This will be a treat!
We are simply having a blast this week with our nature theme! Some of the things we have done include leaf identification booklets, nature scavenger hunts, games, casting of animal tracks and making our own bird feeders to bring home. I wonder what the rest of the week will bring?
We had a fantastic first day of nature week. Today the girls and boys took a hike and learned about how to identify many of the trees that grow in our community. They also began putting together their own leaf identification notebook. Great job! For tomorrow .... well all we can say is "puddle trouble!"
Another great week is a wrap. Art week was super fun and the girls and boys have so many great memories to take home with them. Next week is a fan favorite - "NATURE WEEK :INTO THE WILD." Definitely will be one of the highlights of the summer.
First pumpkin!! We are so excited
The first 2 days of art week are almost in the books and the girls and boys have used their imagination to create some incredible art works. We cant wait to start wood burning art tomorrow. #amazingkids
Week 2 of summer camps was a complete hit! The boys and girls learned how to use wood working hand tools properly and with an increase in confidence were able to complete several small wood working projects. In addition, they completed an awesome climbing wall for the afterschool playground. As for next week, we are are going to change things up from our original camp schedule. Due to restrictions because of Covid-19, we will not be doing water week. If restrictions ease, hopefully we will be able to celebrate this week at a later date. Instead, we are going to do art week where our children will be exploring several different forms of art. Some of the highlights will include splash art and wood burning art. We are looking forward to another great week of fun and learning.
Pumpkin patch has really taken off in the last few days. Many big, yellow flowers appearing. The girls and boys are patiently waiting for the first pumpkin to grow. Pretty soon. #gaintpumpkin
The girls and boys were hard at it this morning building a climbing structure for the afterschool play area. They all did their part to build it from start to finish. A great team effort! #lovethiscrew
Happy Canada Day from our DLA family!
With the weather forecasted for Canada Day not to be very accommodating for fireworks, our little engineers decided to make their version of a firework display. Wow!
A shout out to our awesome DLA team. Our educators are some of the best in the industry. They take a lot of pride in planning for your little ones and it is great to see so many of their learning activities being incorporated by other learning centers. Together we are all making early childhood education stronger. :)
We didnt let a little rain stop us from starting our wood working camp today. Our focus was on learning how to use hand tools safely and begin to work on our first project, a geoboard. Looking forward to better weather tomorrow so we can start some of our outside projects. :)
The girls and boys had an awesome week of team building and getting to know each each better. We have great kids!! Looking forward to our "wood working" camp next week. Should be lots of fun :)
