Dunsford District Elementary School 09.11.2020

Friday, October 3, 2020 Dear Parents/ Guardians: As you are aware the 2020-2021 school year is now underway and across Trillium Lakelands District School Board families have had the chance to make decisions about whether their children would be attending class at their regular school or if they would be attending school from home. As class numbers are now settling, the difficult decision about having to decrease staff at physical schools to support the increased number of st...udents participating in the Learn@Home School has necessitated a reduction of one classroom at Dunsford District Elementary School. As a result of this reduction, next week we will be going through the process of restructuring our classes for this school reorganization. We will need to transfer many students from their existing classroom into a new classroom in order to balance our class sizes across all grades. Due to the number of changes throughout the school, we will follow a similar process that preceded the school year. You will be notified of your child’s teacher via email and/or phone early next week. The changes will be implemented on Tuesday, October 13, 2020 and I want to assure you that our staff will work carefully to create the best possible arrangements for all of our students. Although these changes will present challenges, I am confident the excellent staff at DDES will continue to do everything possible to support the well-being and academic success of our students. Once again, thank you for your commitment to this great school. Your support is very much appreciated. Sincerely, Jamie Stone Principal

This email was sent this morning: Good Morning, I just want to send a quick note to let you know how proud I am of our staff and students. ... We have adjusted well to the new rules and routines. As students return and illnesses start to present themselves I just want to remind you of our protocol. The self assessment is to be completed every day before school. If your child presents with Covid-19 symptoms, they must not attend school. If your child indicates they have symptoms or they present with symptoms at school, they will be asked to go to an isolation room and parents will be called immediately to pick the child up from school. It is important to seek advice from your medical professional about these symptoms. Based upon medical advice, to return to school one of the following 3 scenarios must occur: 1) A covid test is returned as negative and the student is symptom free for 24 hours; 2) The student receives another diagnosis for the symptoms ie. chrons or strep throat; 3) The student self-isolates and does not return for 14 days and is symptom free. The health and safety of our staff and students is our priority. If you have any questions or concerns please do not hesitate to contact me at the school.

Good Morning, Thank you to our Parent Council for advocating for the increased use of Facebook as a method of communication for our school. I will do my very best as an inexperienced facebooker to communicate with you through this platform. Thank you for your continued support of our school. Mr. Stone
