Dear Great Beginnings, Durham Elementary, and Durham Academy, Trinity Church would like to extend a huge and heartfelt thank you for your kind and generous support of our food bank. Each week, we are privileged to serve those in our community who are vulnerable and in need of basic resources many of us take for granted. Sometimes supplies run low and it can be difficult to watch people walk away with less than we want them to have, but your giving had helped to stock our she...lves and will supply several families this Christmas season. Thank you for making a particularly dark and difficult year lighter and brighter for so many! Trinity wishes the families and staff of GBMS, DEPS, and DASS, a wonderful and safe holiday season with many blessings in the New Year. May an abundance of peace be yours, now and in 2021! Heather Broomer Lead Pastor Trinity Pentecostal Church
The Toddler class on Pajama Day. They are such a happy class and it is so nice to see them running into their class each morning with delight.
Durham Academy Secondary students received a Program Enhancement this morning from The Science Centre on Mental Health : The Science of Anxiety. The science presentation explained how our brains and bodies react to stress while introducing students to evidence-based coping strategies.
The grade 7/8 class completed projects for their Structures unit in Science. The effort and hard work put into these projects is very impressive.

Congratulations to Bolu for being chosen for the Youth Excellence Award for the 2020 Women of Inspiration. I am sure this is just the beginning. We are so proud of you. BOLUWATIFE ADEFEMI - SINGER SONGWRITER 2020 Women of Inspiration - Youth Excellence Award... Boluwatife (Bolu) Adefemi is a singer and songwriter from Oshawa, Ontario. Not only is she an incredible student hoping to advance her studies but at only 13 years old, she has made a significant national impact. She writes music that inspires others and plays guitar - but she is a poised public speaker and performer who came to the world's attention when sharing the thoughts of her heart set to music. With the plaintive words "2020 What have you become... why are people so cruel...it's time to make it right" her gentle call to action has touched the hearts of many. As a result of playing one small local event https://www.oronoweeklytimes.com/peaceful-gathering-in-oro/ she was asked to perform at two bigger ones, was interviewed by Global news https://globalnews.ca//oshawa-teen-writes-song-black-live/ and was asked to play her song on two major Toronto radio stations - all this before it was ever professionally recorded. Her voice truly has power, and it is a life lesson for her and young people watching her that will never be forgotten - if you raise your voice up, you will be heard. And you can change the world.

Hello everyone, There has been a change of plans. Edge Imaging has agreed to photograph outside on Monday October 5th. The students will be standing only and there will not be group photos just individual photos. The photographer will take photos of our Toddler to grade 12 students. Edge Imaging will have a photographer at each location who will have been screened and will wear a mask and gloves. Please have your child in grades 1 to 12 wear their school uniforms. I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. A memo will also be going out today regarding our new photo date. Sincerely, Mrs. Mason

Happy Thursday everyone, I cannot believe that next week is already the end of September. I wanted to give you all a few updates. Picture day for tomorrow is cancelled as the company will not take photos outside and I am not flexible on cohorting. I apologize for any inconvenience. Each year we have a Thanksgiving food drive. This year it will have to be different . Trinity Pentecostal church 900 King street East Oshawa where we have grades 5,6,7,8 and DASS does provide food ...for many families in need. I am proposing that we have a food drive from Sept. 28th to Oct. 8th and that all donations are dropped off outside of the building on the west side of Trinity Pentecostal church. Please call the office if you have any questions. We will not be accepting donations at DEPS however you are more than welcome to drop off donations at DASS outside of the building by their double doors. We are now into our third week of school and I am thrilled at how smooth everything is running. Just a quick reminder when picking up children outside of GBMS and DEPS at the end of the day that we still need to social distance the students. With the beautiful weather I have been able to offer our students outdoor Program Enhancements. Last week our students enjoyed Dance Ed taught by a qualified dance instructor. Yesterday and today our students in casa 3 and up have been enjoying Yoga workshops taught by a qualified Yoga instructor. Tomorrow Casa 2,3 and grade 1 will receive workshops from the library on Orange Shirt Day. On September 30th we are inviting staff and students to wear an orange shirt as we will be recognizing and engaging in meaningful discussions about the affect of residential schools and the legacy they left behind. This will be covered age appropriately. That is all for now, until next time..... Mrs.Mason

Hello again, As you know dress down day is every Friday for DEPS and DASS. We will be collecting a toonie from each student in grades 1 and up as in the past on the second Friday of each month. Students do not need to donate a toonie on the other dress down days. Sincerely, Mrs. Mason

Happy Wednesday everyone, We have had a fantastic start to our school year. I would like to extend a big thank you to all of our teachers. There have been a lot of changes and everyone has been so eager and positive. A big thank you to the families who have donated microwaves to our classes so that our students can still have a hot lunch. I have purchased disposable gloves for students to wear so they can play with balls etc.... It is so lovely to hear the laughter of our students and how happy they are to be back at school. If you have any suggestions please feel free to call me at the school office. Also, effective immediately I would like indoor shoes and gym shoes to remain at school instead of going back and forth. Have a great day and I will post again soon. Sincerely, Mrs. Mason Principal
