Just a reminder that the Whitby Library is now accepting seeds for their brand new seed sharing program. You can drop off seeds at the library's contactless pick up until the library re-opens. If you could kindly put your seeds in a bag or envelope, label it and provide just a little information on the seeds that would be greatly appreciated! Once it is up and ready you too will be able to 'borrow' seeds for your own gardening adventures. ... For more information on this wonderful new initiative please visit https://www.whitbylibrary.ca/seedshare
Only 63 more days until Spring! Are you starting to think about what you might be planting or ordering seeds?
Parsley Petroselinum - 2021 Herb of the year - as selected by the International Herb Association. Once considered a garnish it is now one of the most versatile herbs in the kitchen. Freshly chopped parsley is used to add flavour to many foods including salads, soups, fish, meat, vegetables and eggs. It is easy to grow, even in the winter, in a pot on a window sill.... Picture of parsley I am wintering over in my small greenhouse.
January is National Mail Order Gardening month so you might want to start looking if you order seeds or bulbs. I know last year it was hard to find some plants/seeds/bulbs as everyone decided to garden which was great! If you need any suggestions on where to order from or ideas please contact us. We are here to help!
Don't you wish the dog would actually help by really doing this! Do you have this problem? Any suggestions you have to stop your dog from digging in the garden?
What do you see?
What an amazing creative way to transform an old tree that had to be cut down. This is located in Whitby and is absolutely beautiful! I love the way the roots make the beard look like it's flowing down.
Oh the amazing colours of Fall! What beautiful colours have you seen?
Canada Blooms 2021 has been cancelled.
The final planting for 2020 at the Parkwood Estate Tennis Court Garden Rejuvenation project. A great team of hardy gardening volunteers from the Oshawa Garden Club and the Durham Master Gardeners came to Parkwood despite the morning rain showers to get 1250 bulbs planted. The weather gods rewarded us with blue skies, for awhile, and despite a quick thunderstorm which passed through while we all took shelter in the greenhouses, we got all the bulbs planted in one morning. Great teamwork!
Final day at the Oshawa City Hall Giving Gardens. We harvested a few veggies, cleaned out the beds, received recognition certificates from the City and enjoyed coffee and sweets with our Oshawa Garden club friends. What a wonderful project. Thanks to everyone involved. #oshawagardenclub
23 lbs of fresh produce and some fresh herbs delivered to Feed the Need today. This was a great project - over 750 lbs of food produced over the summer from these gardens. Cared for, harvested and delivered to Feed the Need - by members of the Oshawa Garden Club and the Durham Master Gardeners.

Do you know the difference between an evergreen and a conifer? As autumn arrives, you may have noticed that some leaves are already starting to turn those beaut...iful reds, oranges, and yellows. These types of trees are ‘deciduous,’ which means they will shed their leaves in a short span of time every year, usually in autumn. There are also trees whose leaves will not change colour or fall off in autumn. You might be tempted to call these types of trees ‘coniferous,’ and you could be right, but there is an important difference between ‘conifers’ and ‘evergreens.’ https://www.rbg.ca/evergreens-vs-conifers/
Our Parkwood Tennis Court Rejuvenation Project is in the news. https://oshawaexpress.ca/parkwood-continues-garden-rejuven/
Planting day at Parkwood. Today we planted up the 2nd half of the north border in the Tennis Court Garden Rejuvenation Project at Parkwood Estate. The individual planting areas were outlined using landscape marking paint, stakes with the plant names helped the team identify the plants to be planted and a great group of enthusiastic volunteers dug and planted over 175 plants in under 2 hours. A few of the volunteers battled one of the remaining Aralia roots which went almost the entire width of the border! Then with that same enthusiasm, the team dug and potted up more perennials for the plant sale on Saturday. Kudos to a wonderful group of volunteers from the Oshawa Garden Club and the Durham Master Gardeners and a big thank you to Nancy Lawrence from Parkwood for guiding and helping us throughout the project.
