Thank you Optimist Club of Brooklin for all of this incredible winter clothing for kids. This year we have all had to adjust how we do things, but you still managed to collect a mountain of boots, coats, snow pants, gloves and hats. They are making their way to kids big and little. Thank you for keeping our children and youth warm and dry this winter. #DurhamStrong

Diwali is the Indian festival of lights, lasting five days and celebrated during the Hindu Lunisolar month Kartika. This year the festival is celebrated from Nov 12 through Nov 16. The height of festivities is celebrated on the third day coinciding with the darkest night of the lunar month. Diwali is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism, symbolizing the spiritual victory of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance. The festival is widely ass...ociated with Lakshmi, goddess of prosperity, with many regional traditions marking the celebrations. People decorate their homes and workplaces with oil lamps or candles, there are fireworks and family feasts, and gift are exchanged. Diwali is celebrated by Hindus, Jains, Sikhs, and Newar Buddhists, as well as the diaspora from the Indian subcontinent. For each, the festival represents the symbolic victory of light over darkness. To all who celebrate, we wish you a happy and blessed Diwali.
