How are YOU coping with COVID? Would love to hear your stories.
When you walk through a storm Hold your head up high And don't be afraid of the dark At the end of a storm... There's a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark These are the words from You’ll Never Walk Alone and we The Kawartha Kavaliers want you to remember them during these difficult and uncertain times. The Kawartha Kavaliers have been playing this tune for more than 60 years. Generally used in times of reverence and honor. Now we would like to dedicate it to you, the front line workers, the essential service workers, the people who have been touched by this Virus. Walk on, walk on With hope in your heart And you'll never walk alone You'll never walk alone If you have taken the time to listen to our performance and enjoyed it. The Kavaliers would like to ask you to share our post so we can reach as many people as possible. Thank you. Stay Safe
DMB weekly rehearsals at Spruce Ridge Community School have been cancelled until at least May 4th, 2020. Keep safe, and keep practising! If you have videos of home practices, or impromptu concerts, post them here. Love to see them.
Regular weekly Durham Marching Band practices are cancelled for the next three weeks. Stay healthy, and practise at home like crazy! See you all at the next scheduled practice on April 6th.
With sadness, and a smile, we remember Karen Pratt. Karen was a member of the Durham District High School Girls' Trumpet Band Durham and the Durham Girls Drum & Bugle Corps from 1967 - 1972. She fondly remembered the competitions and parades, the camaraderie and fun, the bus rides, the late night victory parades, Ontario Place, Oktoberfest, etc.; and she had a particularly clear memory of marching up the main street of Hanover when the new high school was opened in 1970. Yo...u may (or may not) recognize a couple of faces in the attached newspaper clipping from 1971. Karen is holding her baritone (4th row, second from the left), Kerry Leatham Rouse is in the second row, third from the left holding her soprano, and Sharon Dickson Pegelo is standing on the left in the front row wearing her Colour Guard Captain uniform. When Karen moved back to Durham a little over 3 years ago, she came out to help the Durham Girls Alumni Band and the Durham Marching Band. She worked tirelessly at fundraisers, PR, parades, and practices; and served as Secretary/Treasurer for the band; and tried to keep us all in line. The Durham Marching Band was very fortunate to have Karen generously give of her time and talents, and we will all miss her. Information on the arrangements to celebrate Karen's life can be found here... https://www.mccullochwatsonfuneralhome.ca/
The DMB lost a great friend and supporter today. Karen Pratt has passed away suddenly, and we will all miss her.
If you have the interest, pick up an instrument!! :-D (y) <3
The Durham Marching Band participated in two great parades yesterday...in Markdale in the afternoon, and Arthur last night. Thank You to all our support staff, and Patrick our newest banner carrier. Great job everybody! Next week, the DMB will be in the Santa Parades in Mt. Forest Friday evening, and Durham on Saturday. Come out and have some fun!
First Santa parade of our 2019 season under our belts. Sat Nov 23 in Harriston. Couldn't ask for better weather or a better performance. Well done ladies & gents.
