The new backdrops and stands have arrived and The Boss Man isn't the only one doing a happy dance! I am in love My previous stands, which will still be available for when needed, were amazing and ideal especially when we were tighter on space at venues but they are only 6 feet tall by 6 feet wide, and truth be told I always felt a bit insecure when I had to tell people who were taller that they had to bend down a bit It never bothered 99.9% of people, but it bothered ...me, each and everytime I had to say it. Does anyone else stalk tracking numbers like it's their day job? Can't be just me who does this, right? I'm waiting on some new and exciting equipment to arrive and when it changed from delivery today to delivery tomorrow within the hour it had been since I last checked I let out an audible "Noooooooo!" Not that it makes any difference if it comes today or tomorrow, I'm just so excited!!! Being self employed is not always glamorous.... Edit: Lets be honest, it's rarely ever glamorous for small businesses owners. Throw in a global pandemic and you've got yourself one heck of a gongshow. Anyways, sometimes this is what trying to sneak in an hour of work looks like When all I want to do is update a couple of my printers, and find myself sitting on my office floor with a crying, 4 year old ontop of me who wants to go ride his scooter.

This unexpected downtime has given me time to stop and smell the roses {Just kidding... My son and I moved into a fixer upper in June, the only thing I smell these days is paint and construction stuff } but seriously, I've had a lot of time to think about Durham Photobooth and what I want going forward. I've also had time to do some online shopping and here are 4 of the new backdrops available for your events. Which one is your favourite? ... I let Caleb pick one, bet you can't guess which one he chose But I actually really like it, and see that fun pop of colour really looking in pictures with beautiful smiling faces in front of it.

There is no denying that this is a difficult season in all of our lives. The unknown, the boredom, the sickness, the change of routine... A lot of it sucks. But I am a firm believer in trying to make the best of situations. Does it suck to be out of work? Absoutely. Does it suck to be stuck in a house with a 4 year old 24/7? Let's just say wine is my friend. Does it suck to worry about my friends and family, especially my older parents and my girl friends daughter with Cysti...c Fibrosis during this difficult time? You bet. But I for one have decided to try and make the most of the situation. Those baseboards that haven't been cleaned in, err awhile, are shiny. I have no laundry, I cleaned out the fridge, I've painted more rocks with my son then I should probably admit to and we even had a midday bonfire the other day in the backyard just cause. I'm lucky enough to live {For another 2 weeks} in a wonderful community and we've decided to participate in this fun window scavenger hunt. Everyone gets some exercise and fresh air, keeps social distance (we all go at different times) and it's a change of scenery. Attached is the mock up of the one we're following, feel free to try to implement it in your community!

I get it, props are F.U.N... and who doesn't love photos of them with the most ridiculous glasses and hats and moustaches ever?! But to ensure everyone's safety, as events begin to slowly take place again, I won't be providing the much loved, overflowing with goodness, tickle trunk for the time being. Buzz kill, I know. But what does this mean? * Firstly, all guests will be asked to sanitize their hands before using the photobooth!... * Photos without props can be just as fun! Try to convince me the people in these photos are not having a blast! * We have digital props!! * Your own single event props CAN be used! I HIGHLY suggest nothing that goes on or near the mouth. They won't be handled by Durham Photobooth staff but we will gladly remind your guests to help themselves to the disinfectant wipes we provide. Any questions? Feel free to ask!

Not all photobooths are created equally. Caleb is fascinated by the photobooth and anytime he sees one he insists on us doing pictures A boy after my own heart. Today we stopped in at the Big Apple and he insisted we did the photobooth. I happened to have some change in my wallet so agreed. ... The machine looked fancy and I put the $4 in. When these strips on the left printed out my mouth literally dropped open. In Photobooth Communities I'm in the topic of if photo quality really matters comes up frequently. Although I will agree, not everyone cares if the photobooth pictures are such high quality they can be blown up to poster size, I've personally done this with Durham Photobooth photos and I know customers have too. But the reality is poster size enlargements aren't everyone's goal with photobooth pictures, a fun, memory is usually sufficient. However, come on now, this is just painful. When booking a #Photobooth always ask to see examples of THEIR personal work, events they have done, not stock photos they've bought. #durhamphotobooth #photoboothfun #Thisqualityispainful #expectmore

#NotBusinessRelatedPost but since so many of my customers are repeat customers, at events I often get asked how "the baby" is doing. It's only natural, I did lots of these events before pregnancy, during pregnancy {I did an event 1 week before he was born } and now after that customers become family So for anyone who asks, he is wonderful. Not a 'Baby' anymore he will be 4... FOUR.... F.O.U.....R in March but he is awesome and absolutely obsessed with the photobooth. Last night we were in Oshawa for the McDonald's Staff Holiday Party for the 3rd year. You know what's funny? When I was starting Durham Photobooth I was in a business networking group and I remember having coffee with a man in the group and telling him about my new business. He told me it wasn't a good business idea. Infact, lots of people told me it wasn't a good idea. That the Photobooth was a dying fad, that wouldn't last {Spoiler Alert: Photobooths have been around since ...1925.....} and that it isn't a business that will have repeat customers. The funny thing about this is, last night I did a party for the 3rd year, the night before a party for the 5th year, and the night before that for the 2nd year. This Spring I have a couple Proms booked that will be the SIXTH year. That sounds like repeat customers to me The moral of this story is, if people tell you "No" just smile pretty and prove them wrong.

When I first started Durham Photobooth in 2013 I had a lot of anxiety about setting up and tearing down the equipment {Spoiler alert: A lot goes into it!} I could do it with my eyes closed now but that's taken years of practice. Anyways, I use to load up my equipment and bring it to my parents house to practice loading/unloading/set up etc. And one day when I was packing it back up my Dad noticed I had a lot of loose pieces of "Stuff" in my large tote. He told me I needed to ...buy a small container to put the small pieces in and help keep it organized but money was tight starting a new business so I told him I'd get around to it "later". My sweet old Dad in his typical fashion went and got this container, cleaned it out and brought it to me and told me to keep the small pieces in it, inside the large tote. I laughed and felt silly having a chocolate eclair container holding loose bolts and random pieces I needed but was also grateful for it. It's been 6 years now and I've had many opportunities to upgrade this container to a typical little storage bin but I keep this because it makes me smile everytime I set up and tear down and remember my Dad who is a 1 of a kind man, who is always looking out for me and trying to help out, and also remembering how far I've come over the years. So if you ever see this funny little container when I'm setting up or tearing down, now you know
